Role Overview:
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the financial operations, risk management, and fund disbursement processes for a Venture Capital (VC) fund managing an AUM of $400M USD.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in project evaluation, financial modeling, risk assessment, and fund disbursement across a diverse portfolio of startups and growth-stage companies.
The CFO will be instrumental in ensuring that the fund operates efficiently, maintains compliance with regulatory frameworks, and drives value creation for stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Strategy & Fund Management
- Define and implement financial strategies aligned with the fund's investment thesis and risk appetite.
- Oversee capital allocation and fund disbursement, ensuring that investments are made in a timely and efficient manner.
- Establish robust internal controls and processes to manage capital calls, investor distributions, and fund accounting.
2. Investment Evaluation & Due Diligence
- Lead financial due diligence of target investments, including risk analysis, valuation models, and return projections.
- Evaluate and stress-test financial models for startups and growth-stage companies to assess scalability and potential ROI.
- Collaborate with the investment team to validate business models, assess market risks, and project financial outcomes.
3. Portfolio Monitoring & Performance Analysis
- Monitor the financial performance of portfolio companies, ensuring adherence to agreed business plans and KPIs.
- Develop and implement financial dashboards to provide real-time insights into the health of the portfolio.
- Identify early warning signals for underperforming assets and recommend corrective actions.
4. Risk Management & Compliance
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework to safeguard investor capital.
- Ensure strict adherence to SEBI, AIF (Alternate Investment Fund), and other applicable regulations.
- Oversee compliance audits, legal reporting, and adherence to fund governance structures.
5. Disbursement & Liquidity Management
- Manage capital disbursement schedules for active and new investments.
- Optimize fund liquidity by balancing cash flow requirements with planned disbursements.
- Ensure that capital calls and distributions are accurately processed and aligned with investor expectations.
6. Fund Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
- Prepare and present quarterly financial reports, fund performance summaries, and risk assessments to GPs and LPs.
- Manage relationships with auditors, regulators, and tax authorities to ensure transparency and compliance.
- Provide timely and insightful updates to investors on fund performance and key developments.
7. Financial Modeling & Scenario Planning
- Create complex financial models to simulate investment outcomes, including downside scenarios.
- Conduct sensitivity analysis and stress testing for high-risk or high-capital projects.
- Develop exit strategy models and optimize returns through detailed financial planning.
Key Skills & Competencies:
1. Financial Modeling & Valuation Expertise
- Advanced proficiency in building and analyzing financial models with multiple scenarios.
- Strong understanding of DCF, IRR, and NPV methodologies in venture capital and private equity settings.
2. Investment Evaluation & Due Diligence
- Proven ability to evaluate business plans, validate revenue projections, and assess financial risks.
- Strong analytical mindset with expertise in assessing unit economics, scalability, and risk-adjusted returns.
3. Fund Management & Compliance
- Deep knowledge of fund structures, GP/LP agreements, carried interest, and waterfall models.
- Understanding of SEBI, AIF norms, taxation, and global fund compliance frameworks.
4. Capital Allocation & Risk Management
- Ability to optimize capital disbursements and manage fund liquidity effectively.
- Expertise in identifying risk factors in early-stage and growth-stage companies.
5. Stakeholder Management
- Strong relationship management skills to engage with LPs, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting financial insights and recommendations.
6. Leadership & Strategic Vision
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and align financial strategies with overall fund goals.
- Proven experience in driving financial growth and mitigating operational risks.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: CA / CFA / MBA (Finance) from a top-tier institute.
- Additional certifications in risk management, compliance, or fund governance preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years of experience in finance, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role within a VC/PE fund or investment firm.
- Proven track record in evaluating high-growth companies, structuring deals, and managing fund operations.
- Strong exposure to managing funds with AUM exceeding $200M, with knowledge of capital deployment strategies.
- Industry Exposure: Venture Capital / Private Equity / Family Offices
- Exposure to technology, consumer products, electronics, and renewable energy sectors is desirable.
