Marketing Agency Operations Director

Location: Remote

Team Managed: Artist Managers, Account Handlers, Outreachers, Webstore Creators

Overview:

- The Agency Manager will oversee the operations of The Print Space's artist agency, a pioneering marketing / art sales agency service helping artists manage online timed print sales ("print drops"), marketing, and brand development.

- This role involves overseeing a multi-functional team while delivering against KPIs such as acquiring new artists, retaining existing ones, increasing artist revenue, and enhancing profitability.

- The manager will also be responsible for continually optimising agency processes, ensuring high artist satisfaction, and driving innovation in sales and marketing strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership & Management:

Team Oversight:

- Manage a cross-functional team that includes artist managers, account handlers, outreachers, and the webstore creators.

- Ensure each role functions cohesively to deliver a seamless experience to artists and meet agency goals.

Talent Acquisition, Training, Retention:

- Oversee the scaling of the agency team, including helping to acquire talent, then running the onboarding, training, and succession planning.

- With the assistance of the HR manager, help to establish pay grades for each role, ensure clarity in roles and responsibilities, and identify and resolve performance or personnel issues as they arise.

Team Development:

- Lead professional growth initiatives for all team members, ensuring skills are up to date with industry trends.

- Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain a high-performance culture.

Motivating the Team:

- Foster a positive team spirit, drive accountability, and ensure clear communication and problem resolution across all departments.

- Create a results-oriented atmosphere that values discipline and innovation.

2. Sales and Revenue Growth:

Artist Acquisition & Business Development:

- Lead efforts to onboard new artists by refining lead qualification processes, ensuring they align with revenue goals, and identifying opportunities for growth.

- Develop innovative strategies to attract top artists with high social media engagement, focusing on those with potential for substantial sales.

Revenue Growth Targets:

- Drive revenue growth for the agency, aiming for a 200% year-over-year increase by Q4 FY25.

- Monitor the performance of sales pipelines, review production revenue per employee, and ensure optimal artist sales strategies are implemented.

Sales Strategy Execution:

- Ensure artist managers and account handlers execute print drops and email capture campaigns effectively.

- Oversee pricing strategy, edition sizes, and marketing efforts to balance volume and margin for optimal revenue generation.

3. Process Management and Optimization:

Process Documentation:

- Take ultimate responsibility for documenting and updating all internal and external agency processes.

- This includes creating comprehensive onboarding materials and training manuals for new hires and ensuring best practices are followed.

Process Digitization:

- Identify opportunities to streamline processes through digitization, proposing new software solutions (e.g., Coda, Artcheckr) to the CEO where relevant.

- Ensure all workflows, including artist onboarding and print drops, are managed efficiently using software tools.

Process Adherence:

- Monitor and enforce adherence to established processes across the team.

- Where process adherence is weak, adapt training and retrain the team to ensure efficiency and compliance.

4. Client Management and Churn Reduction:

Artist Retention:

- Work closely with artist managers to develop retention strategies that prevent artist churn.

- Monitor client satisfaction and respond to potential churn risks by addressing service gaps and artist concerns proactively.

Lead Qualification:

- Improve the agency's lead qualification process to ensure that only high-potential artists are brought on board, reducing inefficiencies and maximising client revenue.

Long-Term Client Relationships:

- Ensure all team members maintain a consistent cadence of communication with artists, continually offering value and new revenue-generating ideas.

- Regularly monitor artist email list growth, print drop success rates, and future potential for growth through brand evolution and marketing strategies..

5. Innovation and Strategic Development:

Stay at the Cutting Edge of Social Commerce:

- Constantly research new tools and methods in the social commerce and art sectors, integrating these innovations into the agency's strategies.

- Keep up with trends in pop-up exhibitions, NFC/NFT integrations, and other social commerce innovations such as SMS marketing and AI driven strategies to offer artists new ways to engage with their audiences and grow revenue.

Brand Development:

- Guide artist managers and artists on long-term brand development strategies, including new art directions, pricing consistency, scarcity tactics, and storytelling.

- Ensure artists maintain a high level of engagement with their followers, strengthening their market position.

6. Financial Performance Management:

EBITDA Tracking:

- Work with the CEO to track the agency's financial performance, including nominal and margin EBITDA for the agency team.

- Establish a baseline and continually optimise profitability by balancing team costs with revenue growth.

Contribution Margin Management:

- Maintain accurate monthly contribution and margin reports, ensuring the agency meets its financial targets and contributes effectively to the overall group's EBITDA.

7. Communication and Culture:

Clear and Transparent Communication:

- Foster a culture of open communication within the agency team. Implement company-wide communication standards and prevent silos from forming.

- Hold regular check-ins with all team members and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

Monitoring & Reporting:

- Ensure you stay informed on all issues that could affect the agency's performance, including operational bottlenecks, team issues, or market changes.

- Use software tools to monitor progress and jump into action when necessary, even during weekends or holidays if required.

8. Key Metrics (KPIs):

- Achieve a year-over-year revenue growth rate target.

- Maintain a high artist retention rate and reduce client churn.

- Meet production revenue targets, ensuring accurate and effective lead qualification.

- Maintain agency team EBITDA growth, ensuring optimal team efficiency.

- Drive continuous improvement in process adherence, digitization, and efficiency.

Key Skills & Requirements:

Experience: Proven experience in managing multi-functional teams within the creative, marketing, or e-commerce industries.

Sales & Business Development: Strong experience in driving sales growth, business development, and process optimization.

Leadership: Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a large team while maintaining discipline and clear processes.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring transparency and collaboration across all team levels.

Problem-Solving: Strategic thinker with the ability to resolve issues quickly and efficiently while keeping long-term objectives in focus.

Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of social commerce, art sales, and the digital marketing landscape. Experience with NFC/NFT or emerging social commerce technologies is a plus.

Commitment: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary, to meet objectives.
