The Role:

- The Senior Compliance Manager will be a key member of Hitachi Rail's compliance function that is responsible for delivering a compliance programme for the Rail business unit, consistent with the rapidly evolving compliance landscape within the Hitachi Group.

- This role, reporting into Hitachi Rail's Chief Compliance Officer or delegate, will work closely with the wider Hitachi Rail Legal, Contracts & Compliance team, as well as the Compliance teams of Hitachi Group and its affiliates.

- The role will require agility in navigating the organization, and an ability to positively influence and secure stakeholder buy-in with clear and concise communication.

- Beyond collaboration within Legal, Contracts & Compliance, regular interaction and partnership with colleagues in Finance, Internal Audit, Sales, Procurement, Human Resources, and Communications should be anticipated.

- From the outset, this role will be expected to support multiple elements of the compliance programme, globally and regionally.

- The successful candidate, to be based in Bangalore, India, will be an empowered member of the global Compliance team with global remit for Compliance Operations and regional remit for APAC, for all elements of the compliance programme.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support the Chief Compliance Officer to develop a "best-in-class" compliance programme, promoting ethical behavior and building a strong "compliance culture" throughout the organization.

- Manage globally on compliance operations to optimize and deliver digital solutions for compliance-related processes.

- Drive operations to deliver unified, simplified and accessible solutions for our workforce to engage with compliance programme requirements.

- Support a data, digitalization, and testing and monitoring agenda for the compliance programme.

- Manage all elements of the compliance programme in the APAC region, including necessary compliance reviews and actions.

- This would include programme elements related to, among others: anti-bribery and anti-corruption, due diligence, compliance risk assessments, whistleblower investigations, export and trade controls, privacy and personal data protection, and compliance training and communications.

- Play a key role in cross-functional teams, building relationships and counselling stakeholders in APAC on commercial and reputational risk, leading discussions on risk management and ethical practices in a user-friendly and pragmatic manner.

- Develop and deliver advice, training, communications, and templates and tools, on key processes including risk assessments and investigations when assigned to execute on them.

- Engage with regional and local management and key functions (such as Internal Audit, HR, Sales, Finance) to ensure there are adequate internal controls to achieve the company's compliance objectives.

The Candidate:

It is our expectation that applicants should possess the following qualifications and experience:

- Degree in Law, Finance or other relevant professional qualification.

- At least 7-10 years' combined experience as a practicing compliance professional in top tier law firms or industrial companies.

- Has managed a significant part of a compliance or audit program for an international organization.

- While the successful candidate will manage compliance operations globally, they will be responsible for deployment of all elements of the compliance programme across APAC, and should thus demonstrate a strong compliance generalist skillset, including demonstrable knowledge of: anti-bribery and anti-corruption programmes and controls, compliance policies and procedures, investigations, due diligence, compliance risk assessments/management, privacy and personal data protection, and export and trade compliance, among others.

- In addition, the successful candidate should be to demonstrate the attributes and skills listed below:

- Familiarity with global compliance practices as implemented in industrial businesses.

- Good verbal and written communications skills, listening, influencing and presentation skills with an ability to function with autonomy and communicate in a diverse, global organization.

- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, strong at problem-solving and critical thinking, business and financial acumen.

- Team player, with cultural awareness and curiosity, willing to work with other functions and members of the global Compliance team on joint initiatives.

- Absolute integrity, discretion, and trustworthiness plus the credibility and ability to communicate the importance of same to all levels of the organization.

- Any additional language skills, while not required, would be advantageous.
