Established in 2001, Janaagraha, is a non-profit trust, helping transform the quality of life in India's cities and towns. It works with citizens to catalyse active citizenship in city neighbourhoods and with governments to institute reforms to city governance.
Janaagraha is part of the JANA Group, one of India's best-known, not-for-profit group of institutions, working on fixing India's cities. The group presently works across citizen participation and city governance reforms through Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, city planning and design through Jana Urban Space Foundation, municipal consulting services through Jana Urban Services for Transformation Pvt. Ltd., banking and financial services for the urban poor through Jana Small Finance Bank and affordable housing for the urban poor through Janaadhar.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Head - People and Culture (HPC) must be an exceptional HR professional with demonstrated ability to successfully steer HR initiatives at Janaagraha. S/he will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization by developing and implementing strategic change management initiatives, building robust HR processes and policies, fostering agility, and strengthening the institutional framework to support growth objectives.
Key Job Responsibilities:
(1) Assume full ownership and accountability for onboarding highly talented team members, creating an enabling ecosystem for their development and a culture of engagement and performance, in partnership with the leadership team;
(2) Deliver to pre-agreed standards on the people and culture function in the areas of talent scouting, onboarding and induction, performance management, staff engagement and well-being, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and culture, as applicable to individual team members, teams and the organisation;
(3) Review and strengthen the design and implementation of policies and processes to support the organization's people and culture strategy;
(4) Identify and implement best practices in people and culture policies, processes and practices as relevant and necessary;
(5) Design and implement innovative practices with respect to diversity, equity and inclusion, staff engagement and well-being and learning and development, best suited to Janaagraha's context and needs;
(6) Design and implement an effective and high-quality internal communications system and process;
(7) Ensure full and timely adherence to legal and compliance requirements;
(8) Evaluate current people systems and digital tools, improving and optimising these as required, to fulfil the people and culture strategy;
(9) Develop and implement budgets for the people and culture function
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualification and Experience:
(1) Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related fields. Applicants with a Master's degree shall be preferred;
(2) 15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least five years in a CHRO/ Deputy CHRO role;
(3) Proven experience working in high growth environments and driving organizational agility;
(3) Experience with the social sector shall be an advantage. Outstanding applicants from the corporate and/or other sectors shall also be considered;
(4) Suitable women applicants shall be given preference.
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Strong understanding of the people and culture function through the entire lifecycle of talent scouting, onboarding, induction, performance management, staff engagement and well-being, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and culture;
(2) Strong understanding of HR best practices, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
(3) Demonstrated ability to lead change management initiatives and drive organizational transformation.
(4) Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
(5) Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
(6) Proven track record of fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and employee engagement.
(7) Strong supervisory and leadership skills;
(8) Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail;
(9) Excellent people management, engagement, networking and listening skills;
(10) Strong project management, reporting and communication skills;
(11) Sound understanding of organizational development strategies and practices;
(12) High levels of emotional maturity to empathize with the perspectives and needs of staff;
(13) Ability to adapt to contextual needs of the sector, organisation and staff;
(14) Working knowledge of legal and compliance requirements.
5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive and in alignment with the remuneration offered for leadership roles by leading non-profits. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with relevant experience, skill sets and background.
