Head - Manufacturing - Steam System

Reporting to this position: Direct reportees who are Managers of Supply, Capacity Utilization and Inventory Management. The Supply function covers planning, purchase, manufacturing, quality and order execution.

Peers: Operations Heads of other Verticals across Marketing, R&D, Engineering etc. Finance and HR are separate functions common to all .

Operational Nuances:Steam Systems Division - 

The company manufactures products that are a mix of standard and customer specific non standard products with applications in process industries such as chemicals, Paper, petrochemicals, metals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and the water industries.

Steam Systems Division manufacturers high volume and high variety products like traps, valves, pressure reducing stations, temperature controllers, heat controls, etc. The in house manufacturing processes include machine shop, assembly, testing and fabrication shop. Vendors provide casting, forging, sheet metal, plastic and few machined parts. The division has manpower of 180 and contributes INR 350 Crores with improvements and sales growth totaling to 20-25% year on year.

Role Nuances:

The position shall work closely with Marketing and R&D team as well as counterparts in other verticals for smooth execution of business.

Scope of the role:

As Manufacturing Head candidate shall be responsible for leading the manufacturing and supply operations with accountability for achieving delivery, quality, efficiency utilization and cost targets.

The role requires knowledge of - 

- Lean Manufacturing processes, continuous improvement, and Just in Time systems using tools like Kaizen, 5S. Manufacturing- Resource utilization, process planning, cost control, meeting the production targets; Value Added and Value Engineering projects.

- Capacity expansion planning, utilization, automation. Planning & Scheduling for material and manufacturing using KANBAN.

- Supply Chain - vendor management, purchase, inventory, logistics, imports, support in negotiations.

Quality - QC and QA activities covering rejection and rework control, incoming, in process and finished good inspection/testing, process improvements

- Supporting Budgeting, cash flow and variance analysis. Supporting MIS and Results Reporting.

- Working with the sales and marketing team for planning and forecasting.

- Working with R& D team for product issues, technology matters and product transfers.

- Application engineering, localization, resolving customer issues with the customer support and marketing team. People workforce management : both assembly line members and professional staff (most of whom are engineers); ensuring a healthy work environment consistent with people policies and culture.

Growth Opportunity:

The position is envisaged to grow into an independent Factory Head role with the possibility of support functions reporting to the incumbent within the next 2 to 3 years.

Education:

- Mechanical or Instrumentation Engineer on University level. An MBA in operations will be an added advantage .

Experience:

- Overall operational experience may range from 15 to 20 years in a multinational /international manufacturing environment preferred. At least five years of experience in a Functional Head role is a must.

Desired Competencies and Skills & Ideal candidate shall have :

- Experience in production, operations and manufacturing function within a progressive organization supplying globally. Hands on experience and knowledge in Value Stream Mapping, Lean and new product productionization

- Experience in high product variety and reasonable volume Good managerial ability, strong presentation and communication skills

- Strong capability in building proactive Employee relations. Proactive approach in cross functional collaboration, de bottlenecking and customer understanding

- Strong execution capability
