Head of Legal
- We are looking for a candidate who, is open to either relocating or currently based in Chennai as this is a work-from-office role.
Key Responsibilities :
Medico-Legal :
- Advise on and manage medico-legal issues, including patient consent, confidentiality, medical malpractice, and clinical operations.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate medico-legal risks.
- Handle disputes and litigation related to medico-legal matters.
- Provide training and guidance to clinical and administrative staff on medico-legal issues.
Data Compliance :
- Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws, including HIPAA and GDPR.
- Develop and implement data compliance policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure data security and privacy standards are met.
- Advise on data breaches and manage response strategies.
Intellectual Property :
- Oversee the protection of the company's intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- Manage IP filings, renewals, and enforcement actions.
- Advise on IP strategy and portfolio management.
- Handle IP-related disputes and litigation
Contracts :
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts and agreements, including vendor, partnership, and employment agreements.
- Ensure that all contracts comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Develop standard contract templates and guidelines.
- Manage contract disputes and resolutions.
Tax and Statutory Compliance :
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Oversee statutory filings and reporting requirements.
- Advise on tax planning and strategies to optimize the company's tax position.
- Manage relationships with tax authorities, external advisors and across the Board for all tax and statutory matters.
International Business Law :
- Advise on legal issues related to international expansion and operations.
- Ensure compliance with international laws and regulations.
- Manage cross-border transactions and agreements.
- Handle legal matters related to international partnerships and joint ventures.
Qualifications :
- Law degree from a leading university recognized in India.
- Active license to practice law in India.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in law, with a focus on the areas listed above.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a legal department, preferably in a startup environment.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, data compliance, IP law, contracts, tax, and international business law.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound legal decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
