- Collaboration with Engineering, Marketing and Sales to define the design brief that includes concepts, performance, and production criteria.
- Develop design concepts for Consumer Products and Lighting Solutions using advanced industrial design tools and techniques.
- Responsible for translating the marketing design language into the product concepts.
- Ensuring that the proposed concepts meet the desired cost, tooling, and manufacturability criteria.
- Partnering with engineering teams to refine the concept models into commercialisable designs. Effectively handover the designs to engineering teams for further development and commercialization.
- Develop rapid prototyping, mock-ups and functional prototypes wherever needed to demonstrate the design concepts and functionality.
- Collaborate with Consumer Research teams for market studies, consumer needs and wants, usage behaviours and competitive benchmarking.
- Review designs periodically with Technology leader and BU heads / Marketing heads to drive acceptance and refinements.
- Manage the content and quality of the ID work either from inhouse teams or from outsourced strategic partners. As a specialist, review and refine the work content from the internal and external teams.
- Drive strategic IP creation like design patents, trade secrets and trademarks in the areas of Industrial design. Encourage the teams in participating in internal and external design contests to create the brand for organization products.
- Responsible for building best-in class industrial design team including talent development, infrastructure development and capabilities enhancement.
- Responsible for onboarding, retaining and grooming talent in the ID organization.
Essential Qualification: Industrial Design PG / UG from reputed institutes like NID, IDC IIT Bombay, CPDM ISC Bangaluru etc.
