Purpose:

The Head Employee Relations position is responsible for developing and implementing an overall strategy for labor relations, such as union handling, employee retention, grievance procedures, disciplinary actions, statutory compliance and labor policy, to support an excellent work environment and compliance with labor regulations.

- The position provides guidance to employees and management on all HR policies and procedures. This individual will be the first point of contact for any incoming questions and concerns to help clarify policy expectations.

- This position will incorporate knowledge of state and central employment laws to address requests from government affiliates.

- This position will support employee relations by advocating an attitude and philosophy consistent with the core values of the company.

Position Specifications:

Educational Qualification:

- Post Graduate in Personnel Management / HR & Diploma in Labour laws and Labour welfare with 18 to 20 years of leading Employee Relations on a PAN India level

Skills/ Competencies Required :

- Union avoidance tactics, with strong knowledge of the National Industrial Relations Act.

- Managing and negotiating union collective bargaining agreement experience

- Strong knowledge and experience working with employment laws governing the workplace is required

- Experience with diffusing difficult situations

- Demonstrated problem solving, judgment and conflict resolution skills with the ability to provide high quality independent analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.

- Ability to prioritize workload, remain flexible, accepts feedback and adjust accordingly under tight deadlines.

- Excellent organizational, analytical, written and interpersonal communication skills

- Proven ability to think critically, and effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is objective and consistent.

- Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner.

- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels.

- Ability to interact effectively with others.

- Ability to relate to a culturally diverse community.

- Ability to work well under stressful conditions.

- Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook

- Willing to travel frequently (30%- 50% travel)

Position Description:

The Head Employee Relations is responsible for, but not limited to the following responsibilities:

- Interpret and research policies and procedures, incorporating knowledge of state and central employment laws and practices to provide recommendation to resolve complex employee relations issues

- Provide monthly metrics pertaining to employee concerns/issues, corrective actions and performance improvement plans

- Takes the lead role in investigating and answering governmental claims

- Lead/Oversee or Assist Region HR/IR leaders in executing labor strategy and all field activities within the Business Units.

- Work with and at the direction of the SVP& Business Heads on projects that align business and labor strategies to ensure timely execution of business priorities.

- Provide direction & support to Regional HR/IR leaders to execute contract preparation and act in the capacity of lead negotiator or second chair in negotiation of select labor contracts as assigned.

- Lead or partner with company lead on all union related interactions - build credibility with employees, maintain good morale amongst employees, gain trust of management, etc.

- Partners in Region level efforts to determine/develop needed operating flexibilities to promote maximum workforce productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.

- Assist in positive employee relations initiatives PAN India to include supervisor and manager training and employee awareness sessions.

- Provide coaching, counseling and education to Region leadership, management and HRBPs in the labor relations area. Execute effective training tools and conduct training for employees and managers in IR area.

- Work closely with Sr. VP of Human Resources, Business Heads and Region HR/IR Managers to proactively respond to labor issues, management/labor councils, mediations and arbitrations, etc.

- Accountable for the tracking of Labor and Employee related expenses for the Business Unit, where assigned to assist with a specific negotiation.

- Assist in execution of strike contingency plans - pre-planning, logistics, personnel pool, overall communication during work stoppage, etc.

- Responsible for assisting Regional HR/IR leadersin managing grievances utilizing established grievance processes.

- Lead/Oversee or Assist in preparing for arbitration proceedings in the Region as needed.

- Develop strong working knowledge of labor law practices and current events in the field.

- Lead/Oversee or Assist in major investigations and fact finding on employee and labor relations issues within the Business Unit.

- Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. VP of Human Resources.
