Responsibilities
- The preparation of financial reports and briefings. This area includes tax returns, balance statements, and any legislative requirements such as reporting and disclosure.
- To manage the annual audit process to ensure statutory accounts are produced within required deadlines.
- Providing and interpreting financial information
- Monitoring and interpreting cash flows and predicting future trends
- Analysing change and advising accordingly
- Formulating strategic and long-term business plans
- Researching and reporting on factors influencing business performance
- Analysing competitors and market trends
- Ensure that all financial matters are in accordance with legislation and ethical accounting practices.
- The preparation and implementation of tender documents and purchasing practices.
- Developing financial management mechanisms that minimise financial risk
- Conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
- Managing a company's financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
- Liaising with auditors to ensure annual monitoring is carried out
- Developing external relationships with appropriate contacts, e.g. auditors, solicitors, bankers and statutory organisations such as the Inland Revenue
- Potentially, responsibility for company insurance, licensing, contracts, supplier relationships, and import-export requirements.
- Management of dividends and shareholders.
- Producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines
- Managing budgets
- Arranging new sources of finance for a company's debt facilities
- Supervising staff
- Keeping abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation.
Managerial Duties
- Provide direction and leadership to the department.
- Supervisory responsibility for accounting procedures.
- Supervisory responsibility for payroll.
- Motivation, Training and promotion of financial staff.
- Any other areas which report to the Finance Director – i.e. Quality Assurance etc.
Strategic Duties
- Advise the CEO and board of directors on financial strategy and its impact on company objectives. They should also have input into company objectives and whether they are realistic given the current and projected financial situation.
- Regularly receive financial reports and compare sales and income targets and projections against the reported figures. They should then suggest improvements to projection methods and analyse any failings.
- Assist the board in sourcing prospects for future income by analysing financial trends and any gaps in the market or potential opportunities.
- Participate in financial, human resources and strategic planning.
- Involvement in media and stock market liaison and strategy.
Skills Required
- Require excellent knowledge of accounting principles and best practice, computer software for accounting, financial statements and their preparation, payroll reporting and systems.
- Managerial experience, including management of large groups and discrete teams.
- Legal experience is often an advantage. Regardless, a Finance Manager will need to be aware of government legislation and policy as it affects their role. They will need to stay up to date with changes in legislation and implement any new legal requirements.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, teambuilding, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be a skilled communicator, with well-developed verbal, written and presentation ability.
- Will need to be an accomplished manager of time and stress as well as possessing the ability to delegate effectively.
- Will also need to be computer proficient, especially in specialised software necessary for the fulfillment of their role.
Qualifications
- Working towards or gained a professional accounting qualification such as:
- Association of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or
- Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) or
- Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
- Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)
- International Association of Book-keepers (IAB)
Experience- 5-8 yrs
