Job Purpose :
- The Data & Analytics Head is a senior executive who bears responsibility on behalf of the organization to foster value creation by means of the organization's data assets and external data ecosystem. The associated tasks include:
- Creating value through data exploitation
- Envisioning data-enabled strategies
- Enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics
- Establishing data and analytics governance
- Specifying enterprise information policy
Responsibilities and Duties :
- Defining Data & Analytics Strategy : Identifies and standardizes the use and governance of data and analytics. This includes the governance of data and algorithms used for analysis, analytics applications, and automated decision making. Creates value by unlocking and sharing data and information in ways that will spur innovation.
- Establishing Data Governance : Cascade from data strategy into data governance to promote data access, quality, and analytical capability. Governance can include a knowledge worker training program, a data stewardship model, and data standards. Develops and maintains controls on data quality, interoperability, and sources to effectively manage risk associated with the use of data and analytics. Strives to reduce the cost of managing data and increase the value of the data.
- Identifying and Defining Data & Analytics Investments : Works with business and IT leaders to identify areas of technical needs for real-time data analytics capabilities. Drives the development and deployment of the data and analytics platform. Identifies and prioritizes business projects and enterprise data initiatives utilizing data science capabilities.
- Advising and Reporting : Serves as the Data Analytics technical advisor. Represents the D&A team and enterprise data stewards at leadership meetings and conferences. Develops and gives oral presentations on the power and value of data. Leads and/or serves on steering committees and helps leadership use its data effectively at these meetings.
- Facilitating Internal and External Collaboration : Collaborates with industry data experts to allow a proactive approach to improving insights derived from various data sources. Applies expert knowledge and mastery of advanced mathematics/statistical/computer science methods, theories, and standards to analyze enterprise results. Recommends and pursues collaboration and provides appropriate technical guidance to ensure the success of such collaborations. Interacts with business areas and IT on D&A solutions.
- Identifying Opportunities for New Data Products : Lead strategy development for D&A products to ensure the program becomes pervasive throughout the organization and helps enable new revenue streams. To support these endeavors, collaborate with the CIO to ensure that digital products are released on time, on budget, and with high quality. Be a champion for the information services and related D&A capabilities.
Skills and Competencies :
- Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to work across business lines at a senior level to influence and effect change to achieve common goals.
- Proven data literacy : The ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources, and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options. The ability to translate among the languages used by the executive, business, IT, and quant stakeholders.
- Information strategy experience : Experience in strategic technology planning and execution, and policy development and maintenance.
- Analytical skills : Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with business information generation and analysis methods.
- Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to technologists. The candidate should be able to - sell- ideas and processes internally at all levels, including the board and investors.
- Proven record of effective leadership, including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities, build teams and consensus, get things done through others not directly under his/her supervision, and work ethically and with integrity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the following is desired : data structure, information systems/tools, related software and data management, enterprise content management, and record-keeping policies and practices in a complex organizational environment.
- Broad experience desired, in multiple competency areas of data and analytics delivery. Examples are data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), data governance, data architecture, data integration, data classification, data strategy, data quality management, data security and privacy, MDM, data standards, regulatory compliance, and enterprise architecture frameworks.
Experience :
- 12 to 15 years of progressively responsible relevant experience in data management, including creating partnerships, implementing data governance, and understanding the underlying technologies needed to enable data innovation across a mid-sized or large organization
- Experience in computer programming, query languages, and internet-based data visualization platforms such as Tableau are also preferred
- Demonstrated experience with developing data hubs/warehouses/lakes, associated policies, and procedures,
- Successfully executing programs that meet or exceed expectations in a dynamic environment; experience creating tools and capabilities to assist with data discovery & collaboration, ensure data quality, and to load, clean, enrich, manage, and share data and metadata from a variety of sources
Education :
- A bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, computer science, data science, information science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Academic qualifications or professional training and experience in legal and regulatory areas are also desirable.
