The dimension of the role

Basic Function: The AVP - Finance and Commercial is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. Principal accountabilities are mentioned below:

Key Responsibilities:
 
Planning :

1. Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives in the Entertainment industry

2. Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans

3. Develop financial and tax strategies.

4. Manage the capital request and budgeting processes

5. Develop performance measures and monitoring systems that support the company's strategic direction

Operations :

1. Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team

2. Manage the accounting, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury departments

3. Oversee the financial operations of subsidiary companies and foreign operations in the UK, Singapore and Vietnam

4. Manage any third parties to which accounting or finance functions have been outsourced

5. Oversee the company's transaction processing systems

6. Implement operational best practices

7. Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package

8. Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions

Commercial Structuring

1. Work closely with the sales team to advise on commercial structuring ( Contractual terms, Payment cycles, exchange rates, withholding tax, other indirect taxes) for all licensing contracts.

2. Advice the sales team on the best strategy for optimum utilization of cash flows.

Financial Information ( MIS)

1. Oversee the issuance of financial information

2. Reporting of key performance metrics of the company on a weekly/fortnightly/monthly basis.

3. Automate MIS reporting and enforce reporting discipline across the organization.

4. Report financial results to the key management personnel and the board of directors

Risk Management

1. Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile

2. Construct and monitor reliable control systems

3. Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements

4. Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies

5. Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations

6. Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry

Funding

1. Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts

2. Extensively work with investment bankers and wealth management firms for project funding in various projects such as 1. co-productions and 2. IP investments

3. Work closely with Banks and NBFCs for debt financing.

4. Assist the founders in raising equity financing

5. Invest surplus funds in various liquid instruments.

Third Parties

1. Participate in conference calls with the investment community

2. Maintain banking relationships

3. Represent the company with investment bankers and investors

Desired Qualifications:

1. The candidate should have a degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation.

2. Should have experience in partnering with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills.

3. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and Chartered Accountant designations.

4. The company has extensive overseas operations. Understanding of international business will be preferred.

5. Should be able to hire, coach and build a strong team. Ability to hire and good team building skills are absolutely necessary.
