GM - Food Technologist/Production - P&L

Profile Summary:

Aim to migrate the organization food division from a trading to branded food company. The candidate should have a strong production and sales & marketing background with experience in an IQF company exporting to either the European or US Market. The Key result area for the role is ensuring full capacity production from the plant and helping to drive sales and profitability. Simultaneously the incumbent should control credit and maintain minimum inventory in order to minimize financial costs while ensuring zero stock-outs.

A thorough knowledge of operations, being able to effectively manage people by understanding the African work culture is essential. The ideal candidate will be from the frozen food industry and have experience of working in a start-up, within constrained budgets and building brands from scratch. The candidate must understand how a manufacturing setup functions and should be able to handle operational, financial, HR & administrative aspects of the business. The candidate must have excellent written & spoken English.

Focus Areas:

- Suggest a long term sustainable business plan covering all facets of business.

- Drive growth by implementing an effective route to market

- Manage administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations

- Set up an effective model to link Sales Forecast, production planning and Supply chain to ensure maximum utilization of plant capacities and ensuring ‘Zero stock outs’

- Full responsibility and accountability to maintain and deliver the budgeted P&L. Responsible for delivering both Top Line and Bottom Line numbers

- Execute effective brand building exercise to enable top of mind recall from consumers

- Ensure manpower costs are effectively managed and controlled along with utilities cost

- The incumbent will also be responsible to handle all the IR / union related issues

- Vendor management would be also a critical aspect of the business

- Set smart and measurable KRAs for the team

- Keep team motivated & engaged, so they understand & work towards achieving the larger organizational goals

- Understand the sensitivities involved in managing a diverse set of employees and manage the dynamics of the African way of working.

- Confront & address lack of performance

Experience:

- At least 12-15 years’ experience in related industry, with 3-5 years in frozen foods

- Strong knowledge of EU food norms & FDA rules & regulations

- At least 2 years’ Experience in managing P & L independently is a must

- Experience in export to EU/ USA/ South America highly desirable

- Extensive exposure to manufacturing processes and related policies & procedures

Education:

- Graduate in food production and/or commerce is a must.

- Post-graduation diploma in food production related or equivalent professional qualification desirable.

- Computer literacy and the ability to understand and use the full fleet of MS Office products (Word, Power Point, Excel etc.) is a must.
