Purpose of the Role :

- Directs, plans, and organizes all aspects of the Plant’s manufacturing operations. Develops and implement plans to efficiently utilize materials, labor, and equipment. Works with production, planning, maintenance, project, marketing and procurement to establish manufacturing and production plans, schedules and targets

- Ensures that all intermediaries and final products are produced on schedule and according to established requirements.

- Responsible for resource allocation, including budget and personnel. Accountable for various functions including manufacturing, process engineering and commercialization of the inhouse developed products. Co-ordinates the development and implementation of new engineering processes and technologies

- This role ensures that the company’s production process, from planning to delivery, remains efficient and cost-effective while maintaining quality standards.

- The role also ensures that all plant operations fall within established budgets, schedules and targets.

- The incumbent conducts long-range studies of manufacturing operations to maximize workflow and equipment/space utilization.

- The incumbent also establishes client relationships (specifically regarding product specifications and quality) on behalf of the company.

Responsibilities in the Role (Description of all the activities performed by the role incumbent in the role with specific focus on Operational and Supervisory responsibilities, results, Status Reports, Record keeping and documentation etc…) :

- The role incumbent, as in-charge for the entire Manufacturing Operations is responsible for coordinating and directing all the activities of various team under his supervision, related to Production, Production Planning, Plant Maintenance and Safety, Accounts, HR, Administration etc..

- His primary focus is productivity, efficiency (costs), quality, delivery schedules and team management. The activities performed by the incumbent include:

Technical :

- Is responsible for the Development and implementation of the plant’s manufacturing plans, methods, and processes.

- Determines the most appropriate and cost-effective manufacturing methods, processes, tools and systems.

- Determines the plants requirements for capital equipment and machinery. Develops the capital expenditure budget for the plant and obtains approval for the same. Raises CEAR (Capital Expenditure Approval Request) as required.

- Oversees the selection and installation of Process equipments, machines etc.

- Estimates processing costs, determines production schedules, and implements production process adjustments and improvements.

- Supervises activities of the quality assurance and quality control departments to ensure production is in compliance with both company and statutory standards.

- Works with quality assurance to set and attain company quality and customer satisfaction objectives.

- Supports the marketing and / or commercial teams by providing offer documents on input and processing costs to facilitate quoting for tenders.

- Assists in development of opportunities, especially with larger customers so as to assist overall company sales growth.

- Works through managers (direct reports) in setting standards, priorities and schedules for the team.

Operational :

- Coordinates with marketing, planning and procurement functions for establishing production and delivery schedules.

- Ensures that the agreed delivery schedules to the end customer for supply of Company products are met.

- Prepares plant operating and revenue budgets and obtains appropriate approvals. Ensures that the operating costs remain within approved budgets. Prepares and submits monthly budget compliance reports and variance reports if any.

- Ensures that plant preventive maintenance schedules are in place and adhered to. Monitors all breakdown maintenance and ensures optimal uptime of plant and machinery.

- Monitors plant performance on a daily basis by optimal utilization of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages. Ensures that the ERP package is constantly updated with relevant information pertaining to manufacturing.

- Keeps informed of legal, social, and economic conditions that may affect plant’s operations in the location.

- Ensures that the team is adequately prepared for upcoming systems / procedural changes. Manages implementation of new processes and /or process changes in the manufacturing function.

- Ensure escalated issues are properly handled. Handle escalations that require individual attention / approval.

- Conducts weekly Operations Review Meetings with his/her direct reports.

- Provides periodic updates and status reports to the Senior Management Team

- Has the complete ownership of the hiring process for the location.

- Participates in special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Managerial :

- Directs activities of the team members.

- Works with the team in setting standards, priorities and schedules.

- Develops procedures/policies to increase shop floor productivity, teamwork and quality focus.

- Manages personnel activities of employees (i.e., hires, trains, appraises, rewards, motivates, disciplines, recommends termination as necessary, etc.).

- As a communication catalyst, disseminates information, provides periodic up-dates and delivers various organizational communications to the entire team.

- Ensures discipline and shop floor etiquette are adhered to by the staff, at all times.

- Participates in the interview and selection process of new hires for the team’s under his supervision.

- On an annual basis, completes the Performance Appraisals of all team members as per the company process.

- Provides Quarterly Feedback for his direct reports to ensure that focus is retained on productivity, efficiencies, performance, quality parameters and standard operating practices.

- Coaches and Counsels the team members on performance related issues and deals with performance related escalations.

- Resolves escalations brought by the team members related to the feedback from customers and vendors.

- Ensures that the correct message on the significance of merit, contribution and performance is sent across to all team members during any rewards and recognition exercise.

- Builds the team’s capability to address current business requirements as well as the future requirements of the Organization, keeping in mind individual skill levels, abilities and aspirations. The role incumbent is responsible to oversee the Training needs and Training Programs to take team members skills to the next higher level of expertise.

- Ensures that attendance and leave related operations are smooth; approves any long leave or absence for team members as per company norms.

- Initiates disciplinary action against any team member for absence from work or for any other performance / attitude reasons.

- Constantly works to increase retention within the various team, analyze causes for attrition and manages attrition in line with organizational norms.

- Actively participates in initiatives to inspire high team morale, leading to employee retention and job satisfaction.

- Evaluates and implements suggestions put forward by the staff and also co-ordinate with other teams across the organization to evaluate / implement cross-functional/ pan-organizational suggestions.

SHE (Safety Health Environment) Activities

- Is responsible for the overall SHE Activities of the plant. Ensures that annual SHE plans are drawn up and monitors compliance.

- Is the Factory Manager under the Factory’s Act and ensures compliance with all health and safety provisions under the Act.

- Ensures that periodic safety and environmental audits are conducted and required remedial measures are put in place. Where required prepares Capital Expenditure Approval Requests (CEAR) and gets them approved from the CEO/Board of Directors.

- Establishes the need for Personal Productive Equipment (PPE’s) to ensure high safety conditions within all plant operations. Ensures that required PPE’s are available and issued to the Plant personnel. Monitors usage of PPE’s and initiates disciplinary actions for non compliance.

- Ensures that prescribed norms under the Gujarat Pollution Control Act are followed for water discharges, air emissions and solid waste disposals.

- Ensures statutorily required health check ups are done for Plant personnel and monitors health standards.

- Drives and coordinates all activities for certification of SHEA activities as required by the Company (like ISO 14000, ISO 18000, OSHAS, etc.).

Statutory Compliance :

- The incumbent is the Factory Manager under the Factory’s Act and ensures compliance with the provisions of the following statutes:

- The Factory’s Act and Gujarat Factory Rules, covering Licensing, Approval of Plans and all provisions regarding Health, Safety and Welfare of Plant Personnel.

- The Factories (National and Festival) Holidays Act.

- The Contract Labor (Abolition and Regulation) Act including Licensing of Contractors and other provisions.

- The Minimum Wages Act and Gujarat Rules under the Act.

- The Employees State Insurance Act and Rules there under.

- The Employees Provident Fund Act and Rules there under.

- The Payment of Gratuity Act and Rules there under.

- Compliance under the Gujarat Environmental laws and Rules there under including obtaining consent orders for Air Emissions and Effluents (Water Discharges), and Management of solid wastes.

- Compliance under the Gujarat Sales Tax Act and Rules there under.

- Compliance under the Gujarat Weights and Measures Act there under.

- Compliance under the Central Excise Act and Rules there under.

- Compliance under Revenue Laws (like NALA Tax, Panchayat Tax, etc.)

- Compliance under any other applicable statute.

- Submits a statutory compliance report to the senior management team on a quarterly basis.
