General Manager - Construction Central Africa
Job Overview:
- Client is seeking an experienced and accomplished General Manager to lead their Manufacturing Division, responsible for producing a range of construction materials, including solid and hollow cement blocks, pavers, ready-mix concrete, corrugated steel sheets, AC ducts, and related products.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing mid-sized manufacturing operations within the construction materials industry. Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, driving production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring smooth overall operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- In this role, the General Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing facilities, ensuring efficient production processes and timely delivery of products.
- He will develop and manage production schedules to meet business demands while maintaining optimal inventory levels of both raw materials and finished goods.
- The General Manager will also be accountable for upholding high standards of product quality and consistency, implementing quality control procedures, and addressing any quality-related issues promptly.
- Leading and mentoring a team of production supervisors, technicians, and workers, the general Manager will foster a positive, productive work environment.
- This includes conducting performance evaluations, supporting team development, and ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- The promotion of a strong safety culture and the management of safety training programs will also fall under his purview.
- In terms of financial management, the General Manager will develop and oversee the division's budget, implementing cost-saving measures and monitoring expenses to optimize resource allocation.
- He will also be responsible for developing and executing strategic plans to enhance production capabilities and identifying opportunities for innovation and process improvements.
- Collaboration with senior management on long-term planning and business development is essential.
- Furthermore, the General Manager will prepare regular reports on production, quality, and operational performance, analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and reporting key performance indicators to the CEO.
Required Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, with a master's degree being an advantage.
- He must have at least 10 years of experience managing medium-sized manufacturing facilities within the construction materials sector, with a proven track record in overseeing the production of cement blocks, pavers, ready-mix concrete, and similar products.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, combined with excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, are essential.
- The candidate must have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control standards, and proficiency in production management software and tools.
- A strong financial acumen and experience in budget management are required, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The General Manager should be results-oriented with a strong commitment to achieving operational excellence.
- The ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines is crucial, as is maintaining a high level of integrity and professionalism.
