- The General Manager contributes to the strategic management and development of the department through the provision of a high quality professional and customer focused human resource service to the Corporate Executive, Directors and line managers of the organisation.
Responsibilities :
Strategic Leadership :
- Provides professional high level human resource advice to the Director General and the Executive.
- Provides strategic leadership in the provision of a quality customer focused timely and cost effective human resource management service.
Strategic Planning :
- Participates in the strategic planning and operational plans to implement the Department's objectives.
- Ensures organisational aims and objectives in relation to human resources are achieved according to the Branch's Operational Plan and the Department's Strategic Plan while complying with relevant legislation and Public Sector policies and standards.
Stakeholder Engagement :
- Represents the Department on forums and tribunals and negotiates with stakeholders including central agencies and union representatives.
Business Improvement :
- Develops appropriate human resource policies procedures and guidelines for the Department and provides presentations to Corporate Executive and departmental staff.
- Plans, directs and continuously improves the efficiency and effectiveness of the Human Resources Branch.
People Development and Culture :
- Participates in DMIRS human resource advisory committees.
- Leads multidiscipline teamsand ensures appropriate skills and expertise are available within the Branch to ensure optimum performance and multi skilling of staff linked to workforce plan.
Requirements :
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a management or leadership role, preferably within a similar industry.
- Translates the strategy into operational goals and creates a shared sense of purpose within the business unit.
- Approaches negotiations with a strong grasp of the key issues, having prepared well in advance.
- Demonstrates appropriate leadership behaviour, takes responsibility, promotes accountability and motivates others.
- Strong leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
