DP World in India:
The Port of Nhava Sheva (or Jawaharlal Nehru Port) is India's largest port handling almost half of the country's maritime traffic. The Port of Nhava Sheva, created to add capacity to Mumbai's port, is located on the west coast of India close to the country's commercial capital, Mumbai. DP World Nhava Sheva, India's first privately managed container terminal, is the company's flagship operation in the Subcontinent.
DP World Nhava Sheva links to a wide network of inland container depots (ICD) in Pune, Nagpur, Ahmadabad, Hyderabad, Ludhiana and New Delhi through two sets of railway sidings, which ensure efficient operation. Further the terminal is connected to India's major highway and rail networks, which give access to neighbouring Mumbai and to the hinterland of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and most of North India.
The terminal operates state-of-the art infrastructure and provides a world-class service to its customers. Its productivity is rated amongst the highest in the world and it continuously surpasses its own records in throughput and turnaround times. The seven gates, which control and expedite container flow at the terminal, have proven to be among the terminal's best assets ensuring a smooth continuity of container traffic flow whilst handling some of the highest traffic loads. Future plans include their automation to further improve operational efficiency.
DP World Expansion in India:
The Nasdaq Dubai-listed company partnered with India's government controlled National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) to buy a majority stake in an Indian logistics and warehousing firm, their first investment as part of $3 billion spending plans for Asia's third-largest economy. In Peru, the company acquired Cosmos Agencia Maritima, a logistics service business for $315.7 million, it said in two separate statements announcing the acquisitions on Sunday.
Hindustan Infralog, a DP World and NIIF's joint venture investment platform, has agreed to snap up 90 per cent of India's Continental Warehousing Corporation with the remaining stake retained by its founding Reddy family. The transaction value is below 5 per cent of DP World's net asset value at the end of 2017, the company said without specifying the exact value of the deal or when it is expected to be completed.
- As a global trade enabler, we aim to grow in complementary sectors of the global supply chain, which includes inland container terminals, freight corridors and logistics infrastructure,- DP World group chairman and chief executive, Sultan bin Sulayem, said. The acquisition of Continental Warehousing Corporation provides us with a scalable platform to accelerate growth in the rapidly evolving logistics sector in India.
