Job Summary: The General Manager is responsible for the overall operations and management of the cement plant, including overseeing production, quality control, maintenance, safety, compliance, and project management. This role ensures that the plant meets production goals while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship. The General Manager also leads project management efforts for plant improvements and expansions.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the cement plant.
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet market demands and optimize efficiency.
- Monitor plant performance and ensure that production targets are met.
- Manage plant resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
Quality Control:
- Ensure that all products meet quality standards and specifications.
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures and testing.
- Address and resolve any quality issues promptly.
Safety and Compliance:
- Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and address any safety concerns.
- Promote a safety-first culture within the plant.
Maintenance and Reliability:
- Oversee the maintenance of plant equipment and infrastructure.
- Develop and manage maintenance schedules and budgets.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained to minimize downtime.
Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the plants budget, including cost control and financial reporting.
- Analyze financial performance and implement strategies to improve profitability.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage plant personnel.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and execute strategic plans to improve plant operations and achieve business goals.
- Collaborate with Top management on long-term planning and business development.
- Stay informed about industry trends and technological advancements.
Project Management:
- Lead and manage plant-related projects, including upgrades, expansions, and new installations.
- Develop project plans, including scope, timelines, resources, and budgets.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure project objectives are met.
- Monitor project progress and performance, addressing any issues or delays.
- Ensure that projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Implement project management best practices and ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Customer and Stakeholder Relations:
- Maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Address any issues or concerns raised by customers or partners.
- Represent the plant in industry forums and community events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, Business Administration, or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus.
- Proven experience of over 20 years in Projects and Plant management, preferably in the cement manufacturing or heavy industrial sector.
- Strong project management skills with experience managing complex projects.
- Knowledge of cement manufacturing processes and quality standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, analyze financial performance, and implement cost-control measures.
- Proficiency in safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make strategic decisions.
Work Environment:
- The role is typically performed on-site at the cement plant.
- The role will require the candidate to relocate to Sri Lanka on appointment.
- May require occasional travel for meetings, inspections, or industry events.
- Involves working in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
