About the Territory Planning & Analytics team:
The Territory Planning & Analytics (TP&A) team is at the nexus of Gartner's mission-critical priorities of rapidly growing the sales force and increasing sales productivity. We partner with corporate and senior sales leaders across the globe to ensure the best return on the company's substantial annual investment in incremental sales professionals. Territory Enrichment supports TP&A team's investment and design strategy of more than 5,000 sales associates globally across Gartner Technology Sales, Gartner Business Sales, and Gartner Conference Sales (GTS, GBS, and GCS) by leveraging internal and external data on contacts and their orgs.
The Product Director is a unique, senior role responsible for leveraging technology and automation to expand the TP&A team vision for intelligent territory design and investment. You will:
- Help design the optimal team of data scientists and business analysts to accelerate territory enrichment efforts.
- Partner with many global stakeholders, including senior Gartner leaders, software engineers, and product design teams, to deliver high value products to our clients.
- Guide a cross-functional team dedicated to territory enrichment automation including business analysts, data scientists, data engineers, and software developers on the process of building and launching truly great products via Lean Product Principles.
- Lead the implementation of a "lean" approach to product development where you and the team strive for early validated learnings that leads to shorter cycle times for delivering client value.
Primary responsibilities include:
PRODUCT LEADERSHIP
- Define product strategy and roadmap and align with different business stakeholders
- Partner with the Head of Territory Enrichment to understand Sales' account and contact data needs and data quality challenges, to creatively leverage technology to expand and accelerate impact.
- Partner with data scientists to understand opportunities to leverage/iterate on algorithms. Build user stories for implementation, with eye towards how to measure success and track when/how to iterate
- Conduct internal stakeholder interviews to generate ideas and develop a backlog for product development / innovation
- Create long and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones to achieve the team's goals
- Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project
- Build Territory Enrichment data automation requirements for a dedicated team of developers and data engineers to execute
- Develop and maintain a technology backlog. Participate in and lead concept sprints to build a product roadmap, define MVP functionality and collect user feedback
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
- Collaborate across multiple departments in various US, APAC, and European time-zones to ensure the activities are operating smoothly and accurately. Strong collaboration with IT developers and data engineering departments
- Hire and onboard quality data analysts to analyze opportunities to iterate on algorithms and expand meaningful impact to Sales performance. Lead a high-performing team of professionals
- Create and sustain a positive, collaborative, and innovative environment through regular feedback and mentorship to data analysts. Ensure a motivated, effective team. Provide strategic direction to data scientists, data engineers, and developers
- Ensure that the team produces exceptional quality deliverables as efficiently as possible
- Step-up for coverage if attrition occurs, provide back up, and help coach/mentor existing peers
What you'll need and who you are:
- 10+ years professional experience in internal product development or consulting roles, including meaningful, hands-on, and practical experience in strategic and technical product management
- Master's degree in Business/MBA
- Demonstrated ability to translate quantitative analysis into actionable business strategies
- Working experience in building products based on any of the following data science streams:
- Data analytics with multi-dimensional data
- Recommendation systems or prioritization algorithms
- Machine learning and predictive modeling
- Text mining and Natural Language Processing
- Strong working knowledge of Lean product principles, Software development lifecycle, IT and data science/machine learning topics
- Experience with SCRUM Agile Development methodology
- You should have owned multiple products from ideation to launch
- You are a self-starter who can succeed with minimal guidance and oversight
- You are a problem solver; at Gartner we believe in disrupting the status quo and for that we need people who can think beyond the limits of conventional wisdom
- You have an eye for what a great, flexible, integrated technology product looks like
- Track record of solving difficult problems with business leaders across BUs and leading to measurable results with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions
- Experience managing, mentoring, and coaching teams of product owners and product managers
- Capacity to work on multiple projects at once
Additional competencies:
- Experience leading and contributing to solving complex business problems, leveraging data, and using a structured problem-solving approach
- Exceptionally strong communication skills and an ability to think both analytically as well as strategically
- Excellent stakeholder management as well as demonstrated ability to manage senior client relationships
- Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities with the ability to synthesize information, summarize issues and think creatively
- Experience leading people, including successful training, and coaching
- Preferred working knowledge of SQL, Python for data access and basic transformation
