Job Summary :
- Ensure that the operational and administrative U.S. federal, and state tax requirements for various Franklin Resources, Inc. and its subsidiaries are met, including all federal, state and international income and franchise tax returns, tax accrual and estimated tax provisions, and all applicable federal, and state disclosures as directed by the management of Franklin Resources, Inc.
- Complete other tax compliance and tax research requirements including participating in special projects in support of Fund tax goals and objectives as directed by the Fund tax Sr. manager.
Duties & responsibilities :
- Supervise the preparation and/or review of all Fund tax returns, U.S. federal, and state international, and partnership income and franchise tax returns, as required for Franklin Resources, Inc. and its subsidiary entities. Assist with the preparation of and/or review the U.S. tax accrual and estimated tax provisions.
- Research the application of U.S. federal and state tax laws, as well as court decisions, to aid in corporate decision making on decisions with tax ramifications; advise the International Tax Manager or International Tax Senior Manager of Corporate/International Tax on all matters of U.S. federal, state, and international taxation.
Required Education, Training And Licenses :
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with emphasis in accounting, finance, or tax, and completion of basic course work for an advanced degree in one of these fields.
- Corporate/International Tax Supervisors are expected to be working towards an advanced degree in accounting, finance, or tax, and to complete this degree work in due course within their employment as a member of the Franklin Templeton Corporate/International Tax Department.
- Candidates in the process of becoming certified as a public accountant (a CPA) may be given preference.
Experience :
- A minimum of four or five years of significant tax experience in a public accounting firm or industry position with substantial exposure on taxation of corporations, partnerships, state tax requirements and issues, international tax requirements and issues, and similar tax concepts.
- Candidates are also expected to have a general accounting background with experience in accounting principles and procedures, and should have some experience in the development and review of financial statements generally, and tax accruals and provisions in particular.
Special Skills :
- Must have excellent tax research and writing skills, and must be prepared to present evidence of the same during the interview process.
- Must have advanced computer skills, and be familiar with Microsoft business applications and other tax and financial applications, and must have some experience with corporate tax preparation and partnership tax accounting software.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and must have organizational and supervisory skills.
Comments :
- Maintenance of technical proficiency on all matters of U.S. federal and state taxation is critical.
- The development of a solid technical understanding of matters of partnership and international taxation is very important to the successful performance of this job.
- While some of these technical tax skills can be learned on the job, a very solid understanding of general tax principles in the areas of U.S. federal and state taxation, and their impact on business decisions, is an essential pre-requisite for this position.
