Purpose
- Evaluate, redesign and build most optimal transportation network (Air & Surface) - both Regional and National
- Engage in the effective design, resource planning and implementation of layout & Infrastructure of Transport Centers (TC)
- Work closely with operations and vendors to create most effective operational solutions between local dedicated fleets, Zonal and National Fleets
- Lead Capacity Planning (Air & Surface) & Management activity by working closely with operations and Vendors
- Engage with cross functional teams to ensure effective deployment of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) across the different nodes in the Supply Chain (MH, TC, DH etc)
- Works with teams to create and deliver value at the lowest possible total cost
- Creates flow through assigned value stream via cross-functional collaboration
- Develops a problem-solving culture where problems are made visible and fixed at the root cause
- Engages in relentless pursuit of continuous improvement (seeks perfection) of current SOP and Standard Work and support with updating them
- Focuses on immediate actions and waste reduction through Time Motion Study and other waste identification techniques
Process
- Works 50% - 70% of the time in Gemba (the work site) to understand and solve problems where they occur, with the people (operations) who live with the problems every day
- Continuously challenge Status Quo - for improvement
- Practices and teaches fundamental problem solving (PDCA) to find problems, define them, fix them and keep them from coming back
- Supports and leverages process for sharing best practices across locations
Desired skills and experience:
- Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma deployment: ideally experience both working in a world-class organization and some experience building an organization in a division or start-up company
- Fluent in all things Lean: Lean Principles, Lean Leadership, Lean Tools and Kaizen
- Green or Brown Field Start up experience a plus (must be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, creating structure and working in an fast-paced ever changing environment
- BS degree or better (Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics etc.)
