Job Summary:
- As part of the EY Research Institute, you will have the opportunity to showcase your data storytelling expertise to help us create compelling narratives and engaging visualizations for thought leadership.
- You will work directly with senior EY business leaders to support 10-15 high impact research projects a year on a mix of cross-cutting and sector-specific business topics.
- You will leverage exploratory data analysis, information design theory, UI/UX design principles, and data visualization best practices to create visualizations for thought leadership on EY.com and business intelligence dashboards for EY clients and practitioners.
- You will work with a mix of data types (e.g., numeric, categorical, unstructured text) and leverage a range of static and interactive visualizations from the simple (e.g., bar charts, scatterplots) to the complex (e.g., flow diagrams, network diagrams, scrolling stories).
- All your work will be in collaboration with a cross-functional team including EY Knowledge analysts, data and analytics experts, editorial teams, internal/external activation networks and external institutions (e.g., academics, think tanks).
- You will be responsible for designing and delivering compelling story-driven data visualizations for each project.
You will:
- Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to understand the research topic, methodology, and data
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify insights, narrative hooks, and opportunities for visualization
- Work with the research team to integrate insights and visualizations into the narrative
- Design and publish data visualizations on EY.com using Flourish and custom coding (e.g., D3.js, Bokeh, Plotly)
- Design and publish business intelligence dashboards for EY colleagues and clients using PowerBI
- Collaborate with our research team to create compelling, data-driven client decks in PowerPoint
- Experiment with new formats and visualizations for more immersive storytelling
- Advise and educate our analyst and marketing teams on data storytelling and data visualization best practices

To qualify for the role, you must have:
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience outside of an academic setting in data storytelling, data journalism, or data visualization. Ideally, this experience is in a business setting or involves work on business-relevant topics
- Theoretical understanding of information design, UI/UX design, and data visualization
- Ability to code custom data visualizations using appropriate tools such as D3.js, Plotly, and Bokeh
- Experience developing business intelligence platforms in PowerBI or Tableau
- Experience with exploratory data analysis using appropriate tools (e.g., excel, python, R, Alteryx)
- Intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated ability to rapidly develop an understanding of new content
- Strong communication, presentation, and storytelling skills
- Ability to work asynchronously across time zones as part of a global team
Ideally, you'll also have:
Education:
- MBA/Master's degree or postgraduate qualification preferable
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience using the data visualization software Flourish
- Experience developing diagrams, infographics or static data visualizations using appropriate tools (e.g., Illustrator, PPT)
- Experience with SQL or similar data management tools for manipulating large datasets
