Summary:
The E&S Risk Manager (Environmental and Social) is an important role in the organization to achieve Sustainability strategy and meet the requirements to conduct E&S risks associated with the supply chain of ETG commodities in identified value chains. The candidate should have a good understanding of E&S risk practices, assessment, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Experience of working in an Agribusiness will be an added advantage.
The profile requires working closely with ETG's different business verticals and conduct E&S compliance and monitoring work. The role demands strong management and networking abilities, excellent writing and reporting skills. The role shall also require managing (social & environmental) banking facilities to develop and expand our sustainability work in various commodity supply chains.
Primary responsibilities:
1. Risk Identification:
a. Carry-out E&S Compliance on group plants and operations by conducting due diligence including but not limited to site visits, collection of necessary E&S documentation (e.g., certificates and authorizations), and preparation of E&S risk assessment reports
b. Track performance of the site teams to ensure timely compliance to the Group requirements
c. Work with internal teams across multiple countries to conduct self-assessment of E&S risks; prepare & present the quarterly reports to the function head
2. Risk Monitoring and Reporting:
a. Develop documentation as per ESAP (Environment & Social Action Plan) on E&S aspects
b. Track and meet compliance requirements to the agreed ETG agreements (ESAPs) with the lenders
c. Work with external consultants to conduct annual reviews as per ESAP requirements
d. Synthesize the reports and conduct briefing meetings with function head and external stakeholders to identify the mitigation plans on the identified risks
e. Support site teams in implementation of the Group EHS Procedures
f. Prepare dashboards and presentations to present the progress on ESAP
3. Risk Mitigation
a. Plan and execute the deliverables as agreed in the ESAPs
b. Work with site teams to ensure the policy and procedures developed at the Group level are implemented at the sites
c. Assist in developing capability development plans, training & development schedules to mitigate the identified gaps in stipulated period
d. Monitor and report the implementation of the requirements
4. Supporting sustainable loan facilities with banks
a. Supporting the ETG Group on raising sustainable loan facilities with DFI and banks
b. (10%) Supporting the ETG Group with the design and implementation of a E&S reporting framework within our sustainability portfolio
Education qualification and desired experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Science/Engineering and Master's degree in Environment/Sustainability/ Development Studies
- Desired work experience for the role is 5+ years in the domain of EHS risk identification & mitigation along with other Sustainability activities
- Knowledge of international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, ILO, Human Rights), certifications and E&S risk profiles in emerging markets (ISO 9001; ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001; SA 8000)
- Prefer to have the understanding of supply chain certificates like UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, etc.
Skills required:
- Excellent communication skills, in particularly in writing and presentations
- Comprehensive and fast writing of grant applications and donor reports
- Strong networking skills and know-how in the field of development banks, and governmental institutes with a focus on community and environmental agriculture programs in Sub-Sahara Africa
- Strong time management skills
- Affinity with intercultural communication (Africa, Europe, Asia)
