Job Title : Country Research Analyst

Purpose : An opportunity is available in the Country Risk team for an Emerging Market Country analyst with a core focus on Africa. Location for role is in Mumbai

Responsibilities will include (but not be limited) to the following:

- Taking full responsibility of your portfolio countries;

- The writing of country reports in which you analyze the country on the following risk criteria: political, economic, currency, operational & debt dynamics/ servicing;

- Reporting and presenting the country's risk profile and rating motivation to the main credit committee on a regular basis;

- Managing of country risk on a portfolio basis versus limit setting and facility utilization;

- Creating efficiencies and enhancing the country risk portfolio reporting system

- Facilitate business by developing a good understanding of the underlying business and help structure deals/ transactions around pertinent country risks;

- Monitoring daily developments in your portfolio countries;

- Data analytics and model building

- Assisting the Head of Country Risk with presentations

- Assist in the composition of ad hoc reports and requests

- Capturing of limits and ratings on internal models;

- Build relations with related economic/political contacts in the specific countries to get an on the ground perspective of local developments.

Qualifications & Experience

- 1st attempt CA/MBA's from Tier 1 institutes with relevant experience. Relevant post graduate degree majoring in Economics/ Econometrics or financial markets association qualification like CFA will also be acceptable ;

- 2+ years of experience in a country risk or country research environment with strong analytical, writing and presenting skills;

- Good theoretical knowledge of economical/ political terminology and methodology plus the practical application thereof;

- Understanding of the factors influencing Global Financial Markets and the repercussions thereof on your country portfolio.

In addition to the above, the successful applicant will need:

- A firm understanding of Country Risk and the dynamics there-off;

- A good economic background is essential as you need to be able to analyze the country's critical economic indicators/ fundamentals/ ratios and suggest/ motivate a rating and LGD by using available quantitative models;

- The candidate will need to develop a good understanding of the underlying business that the Bank conducts - cross border- and communicate/ highlight the country specific risks to business and main credit;

- The role requires the capacity to remain focused, think and act quickly/ creatively under pressure in a dynamic environment.

- The successful applicant must be highly motivated, self-assured and have quantitative and analytical expertise, excellent communication skills and be a good team player;

- The analyst should have a general understanding of global developments and the possible impact of this on the Bank's country portfolio;

- Have a sound understanding and passion for African markets;

- Able to travel to portfolio countries;

- Being fluent in either French or Portuguese would be beneficial but not mandatory.
