Our client is a leading Integrated Financial Services Firm which is looking for a Lead Economist (Indian Economy) for its Institutional Broking division with minimum 5 years experience in tracking the Indian Economy.
Job description: Economist
1. Responsible for content generation by writing impactful articles on broad range of economy, policy and equity strategy related topics.
2. Driving macroeconomic research on the Indian economy, including reports on national income, inflation, industrial production, external sector, public finance (pre-budget and budget reports) and monetary policy developments.
3. Writing research reports on the economic policy environment and tracking and analyzing the impact of policy decisions by various government departments and independent regulators.
4. Tracking global economic developments and preparing notes on events impacting the Indian economy and/or capital market.
5. Estimating economic variables and maintaining updated data sheets/databases.
6. Responsible for monthly Strategy Reports based on ongoing economic events and coordinating with equity research analysts in the team to prepare top-down sectoral analysis.
7. Regular briefings and need based research for senior management in a time-bound manner.
8. Key Role - To provide economic analysis and recommendations to the sales team/Senior Analysts
9. Understanding of the structure of the Indian economy and presenting it commercially, interpreting high frequency data, forecasting, report writing, selling ideas to internal clients, regular timely follow up of economy -related events.
10. Investment advising - Interaction with internal (sales) and external clients on sector and company updates, published research
11. Maintenance of relationships with policy experts wherein one needs to get a meeting for a client or sales independently
12. Independently prepare notes/ emails, idea generation for sales, broking, published research, economics, economic analysis, finance, publication
13. Superior drafting skills are a must.
14. Ability to work under time pressure and adhere to deadlines is important
Educational / Experience Qualifications:
1. First class BA in Economics and - First class in MA/ MSc in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, Gokhale Institute Politics Economics (Pune), IGIDR (Mumbai), Chennai School of Economics or overseas from a Tier -1 economics school
2. Having published a paper in a recognized journal or any other form of publication will be an added plus
3. Work experience / Projects in the form of a stint with a Government body or involving interactions with the Ministry of Finance/RBI will be an added plus
4. Must be currently engaged in a similar role in a Broking House/Bank/Think-Tank
