Job Title: Director of Pharmacy.
Job Summary:
- The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and driving the strategic vision of the pharmacy department.
- This role involves leadership, strategic planning, and operational excellence to provide high-quality pharmaceutical services to patients while optimizing efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Provide leadership and direction to the pharmacy staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Develop and implement strategic goals for the pharmacy department aligned with organizational objectives.
- Promote a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Operational Oversight:
- Manage day-to-day pharmacy operations, including inventory control, procurement, and dispensing activities.
- Ensure efficient workflow and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor and optimize the department's budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Maintain compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards (e.g., FDA, DEA, Joint Commission).
- Implement and oversee quality assurance programs to ensure medication safety and efficacy.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain operational excellence.
Clinical and Patient Care:
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective medication management protocols.
- Monitor patient outcomes related to pharmaceutical care and implement evidence-based practices.
- Provide guidance on complex medication-related issues, including drug interactions and contraindications.
Strategic Planning and Innovation:
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and systems to enhance pharmacy services, such as automated dispensing systems and electronic health records.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging therapies to drive innovation.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with external organizations, vendors, and stakeholders.
Qualifications:Education and Certification:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or equivalent.
- Active and unrestricted pharmacy license in the state of employment.
- Certification in pharmacy leadership or administration is preferred (e.g., BCPS, FACHE).
Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive pharmacy experience, including leadership roles.
- Experience in hospital, clinical, or healthcare system pharmacy management is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Financial acumen and experience with budget management.
- Proficiency in pharmacy management software and healthcare technology systems.
