Director - Operational Excellence - (15-25 yrs)
Job Description / Capsule :
- This role will be responsible functionally for providing support to the VP Enterprise Capability Solutions (ECS) and MD of the company.
- The role will report short term into the VP, ECS, and longer term, will report into the ECS/GITC Operations Leader once that role is recruited.
- The scope includes a range of areas associated, most notably, with performance metrics and tracking, portfolio visibility and communications to support the transformation & transition to the organizations new operating model.
- This role will also support the orchestration and completion of key processes to be completed for company-IT, e.g., tier process, annual planning, IT strategy alignment and identifying/deploying ongoing business agility opportunities and ensure these are embedded into the ECS organization.
- The role will also be accountable for company entity Strategy & Performance - to develop the strategy and measures to enable the Chennai & Bangalore centers achieve their objectives in terms of quality, speed, efficiency, and service levels.
- The role will work closely with VP ECS with matrix management into our Strategy and Performance (S&P) team, company Leadership team the rest of the ECS LT to drive consistency, governance and delivery to time, quality for pan company IT initiatives and processes.
- The role holder will sit on the ECS & company site leadership team and be given their own remit of responsibility
- He /She will be expected to use initiative and a self-driven approach, with the opportunity to identify and suggest continuous improvement opportunities.
Typical Accountabilities :
- Work with the VP ECS, ECS LT, company LT to deliver and embed our global company IT strategic initiatives , operating model, site operational excellence and ways of working spanning :
Governance, Strategy & Performance
- Facilitate ECS input to company IT strategy, ECS strategy alignment and adoption and track key ECS strategic priorities and milestones - identifying continuous opportunities
- Support understanding, agreement and adoption of pan company IT OKRs and KPIs within ECS; facilitate agreement of ECS performance OKRs and KPIs and associated governance and tracking processes to align with company IT performance processes/governance
- Use analytics to identify continuous improvement opportunities and undertake selective cross and in-industry benchmarking to support continuous improvement and strategic thought leadership
- Create and own assessment of all aspects of strategy & performance of company (including GCO both sites & R&D BLR), design and fine-tune appropriate measures, evaluate metrics and outputs and report on business performance and trends so that the leadership team can understand performance against key indicators
- Manages knowledge partnerships with Consultants & industry bodies to provision the outside in view to the entity
Portfolio
- Ensure company IT portfolio governance, standards and processes are understood and adopted across ECS
- Work with ECS LT and S&P to provide consolidated visibility of the ECS portfolio - identifying optimization opportunities
- Facilitate and support ECS portfolio prioritization processes and decision making
- Identify opportunities for re-use, share, speed, de-duplicate, simplify - within ECS and with company IT partners
- Support consistency of delivery approaches and methods both within ECS and with overall company IT approaches/methods
- Track ECS portfolio delivery and governance for continuous improvement opportunities
ECS & company Operations
- ECS & company Pulse survey reporting to leadership
- Support annual financial/budget planning
- Support Tier process at both the functional & site level
- Facilitate cross-ECS & site engagement and broader ecosystem events
- Develop and deploy ECS & company communications and stakeholder engagement
- Manage and optimize programme/project management capability pool across ECS
- Ensure ECS has Transformational consistency/delivery across operations
- ECS & company thought leadership: Drive the innovation story and impact through digital, agile, etc.
- Drive & program manage cross functional initiatives across company & ECS
IT Business Resilience
- Owns the global Business Resilience management process for company IT.
- Ensures that Business Continuity plans for all service lines are formulated, updated and tested regularly.
- Also ensures effective leadership of all global Business Continuity measures in case of real life outages to any of the offshore (Chennai/BLR) or hub locations that effect IT & other service delivery.

- 1-12 Approximate number of people managed in total (all levels)
Education, Qualifications, and Experience :
Essential :
- Bachelors degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field
- 7+ years' experience in business and performance
- 3+ years' experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment preferred
- 5+ years' experience leading cross functional teams and building consensus
- Experience with insights generation and demonstrated understanding of new and emerging business intelligence tools
Desirable :
- Six Sigma certification
- Knowledge of industry qualifications and standards management ideally in a mixed in/ outsourced IT environment/consulting
Skills and Capabilities :
Essential :
- Understanding of portfolio management concepts
- Understanding of critical operating/manufacturing value chain and processes
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and multiple leadership layers to develop critical business outcomes
- Ability to influence and challenge at a senior level and communicate complex issues in a simple and effective way
- Effective analytical skills to identify opportunities for performance improvement and enhanced business/ways of working agility - including within portfolio and performance working
- Knowledge of transformation delivery approaches and methods, including Agile and waterfall and the relative pros and cons when using those and other methods
- Good understanding of deploying OKRs/KPIs metrics for enhanced business performance and utilizing benchmarking for effective target setting
- Effective strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of budgeting and finance concepts and processes
Desirable :
- Performance management approaches and application
- Able to communicate the potential impact of developments in the IT marketplace on organizations and individuals internal and external to IT
