Director of Data Engineering -
As a Director of Data Engineering, you'll be building a team of engineers from the ground up. Your goals would be to make data ubiquitous in all. You would lead the company to make better, faster data-driven decisions by making data accessible to every employee. In addition, you'd help uncover interesting insights for the company to unlock untapped potential.
Responsibilities:
- Create and own the strategic roadmap for the team
- Manage team execution and ensure timely delivery based on the plan
- Mentor and grow a talented team capable of taking on increasingly more challenging projects and delivering world-class products
- Help with project management as well as cross-organization dependencies
- Drive an excellent student experience, continually raising the bar on functionality, usability, and simplicity for our product through the use of data
- Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics, and process for regular assessment and improvement
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to your team members and your project peers
- Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the content and management teams

Desired skills and experience:
- 10 years of experience in consumer web.
- Deep understanding of the data lifecycle at an internet consumer company.
- Deep understanding of the tools to move data, operate over it and present it in an optimized format for a variety of consumers.
- Strong knowledge of developing web applications using both frontend and backend components
- Strong knowledge of Ruby, Go, Python, Java, and/or Javascript
- High proficiency and technical leadership in backend infrastructure and data pipeline architecture
- Strong management skills for planning and executing complex multi-team projects
- Experience architecting, developing, and launching software products and/or services
- Experience managing successful engineering teams including hiring/termination and performance management
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Deep understanding of how culture and team dynamics create exceptional teams
- Ability to effectively communicate your plans and vision to the broader company.
