ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is a high impact role within the company. This role is ideal for exceptionally talented technical person with passion to build large-scale intelligent systems using some of the most advanced web technologies. The CTO will be responsible for aligning the engineering priorities with the business requirements. This person will not only be working directly with the CEO, but will also be working with talented team of developers, testers, and operations who are responsible for the overall delivery. This person will have responsibility for managing the product development lifecycle, developing detailed technical requirements, designing solution and managing engineering team to delivery quality product. Additionally, the candidate must be highly motivated, well organized and possess excellent leadership skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design system architecture, design decisions and provide input on all aspects of the system, keeping an eye for performance and maintainability.
2. Understand evolving sales technologies ecosystem, contribute to product vision and strategy, help in defining business requirements, project impact measurement and tracking.
3. Initiate, organize, prioritize, and manage engineering execution and programs involving cross-functional teams.
4. Involve stakeholders in project discussions and explain design-decisions, constraints to all stakeholders.
5. Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance, and operational support.
6. Establish the practices for code reviews, unit testing, technical documentation and guide/mentor the development team.
CURRENT TECHNOLOGY STACK:
1. Python and Django are the primary tools
2. PostgreSQL as the database
3. Apache Solr for search
4. jQuery and AngularJS for client side magic
5. OS - Fedora Linux
We love trying out new things and are open to adopting new tools/frameworks if their practicality for the job at hand can be proved
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience designing software products and managing the full lifecycle of web based large-scale products/ features from conception to deployment: design, implementation, testing, releasing and sustaining.
2. Experience in establishing and maintaining best practices in a team, performing and promoting code reviews, unit and integration testing, and training sessions.
3. Proven experience and in-depth knowledge in one or more technologies. Experience in Python or any other scripting language is a bonus.
4. Interest in natural language processing libraries like NLTK or exposure to some of these areas is a bonus: Text Classification, Semantic search, Web crawling, Information extraction, Sentiment analysis, Bayesian classification.
EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL TRAINING:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
2. Team management experience, and experience with agile methodologies.
3. Ability to lead cross-functional teams through influence versus direct management; excellent interpersonal skills
