Job Summary

The Deputy Director - Finance develops and manages implementation of the short and long term finance strategy for Digital Green. The position manages the finance team and is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the finance and accounting department, including, but not limited to, the annual audit, compliance, budget process, financial reporting, grant/donor, reporting, field office accounting, and centralized payroll and accounting. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Digital Green.

Key Responsibilities

A. Strategy & Financial Planning

1. Oversee analysis and provide leadership with financial information to support effective financial resource allocation and decision-making during organizational strategy refreshes and reviews. Oversee the building of long-term financial investment, forecast, and annual plan.

2. Create financial models/forecasts to determine future funding needs

3. Provide recommendations to senior management based on financial and risk analysis on making right investments and allocating spends.

4. Train staff on financial management and compliance requirements and procedures

B. Budgeting

1. Create tools and processes, and oversee the implementation of unit-wise and organizational-wide budgeting and review processes. Monitor usage of budget and overall cash flow and provide recommendations to senior management to streamline the process.

2. Design and conduct internal capacity building workshops to coordinate budgeting and compliance.

C. Reporting & Documentation

1. Oversee the regular preparation and management of internal and external financial reports and ensure the required financial documentation are prepared accurately and submitted on time to the right external authorities.

2. Analyze and review key insights and take away strategic actions on data related to key finance indicators, monthly reports, and the finance function and share with senior management

3. Serve as a legal advisor and liaison to review agreements and contracts with donors, partners, vendors, and employees

D. Accounting

1. Develop and supervise implementation of accounting policies, systems, and procedures

2. Design and oversee the process for cash reconciliation each month and closing of monthly books and bank statements in a timely manner

3. Oversee the process for tax returns, financial statements and period closings and resolve issues as they arise

4. Design and oversee implementation of efficient and effective expense claims process and system

E. Audit & Compliance

1. Review proposed and ongoing controls and investments for compliance with organizational, statutory, and donor financial policies and guidelines

2. Oversee the completion of all necessary tasks required for internal and external audits for Digital Green and its sub-contractors

3. Oversee management of investment and grants through monitoring of execution, financial forecasting, and advice to senior management

F. Donor Compliance

1. Develop a framework for various areas of donor and statutory compliance across programs and institute efficient checks and balances within operations and programs to track those areas.

2. Anticipate and pro actively resolve the issues around donor compliance. Institute processes and systems which would help mitigate potential issues

3. Review information for donor and statutory reporting and develop key insights from the information for senior management. Ensure that the donor receives the information on a timely basis and with the highest quality

Qualifications and Experiences

- Qualified CA or MBA (Finance)

- 10+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting or financial management

- Professional experience working at a global level in a multi-country, multi-donor supported not-for-profit organization.

- At least 5 years of experience managing programs funded by the U.S. Government, including experience managing finances for USAID-funded projects

- In-depth knowledge of USAID financial management rules and regulations and other key USG regulations, including USAID 22 CFR Part 226 Administration of Assistance Awards to U.S. Non-Governmental Organizations, 22 CFR Part 145 Grants and Agreements with Non-Profits, OMB Circulars A-122, Cost principles for non-profit organizations, and A-133 Audit of states, local governments, and non-profits.

- Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) applicable to USA accounting procedures and processes

Skills and Competencies

- Knowledge of strategy development, business/financial planning, risk management, and general management practices.

- Technical and complex financial like activity-based costing, portfolio analysis, NPV analysis.

- Skills for project management and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.

- Strong analytics (especially financial modeling).

- Knowledge of systems and processes related to financial management

- Experience managing teams

- Ability to adopt new software and financial management systems.

- Extremely detail oriented and organized

- Experience in implementing financial control systems

- Adept at using Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

- Fluency in written and spoken English

- Training/capacity building and management skills and experience

- Results oriented; commitment to quality and efficiency

- Willing and able to work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment

- Willing to travel to different offices and engage with people of multiple cultures

- Flexible attitude towards changing priorities and ability to multi-task

- Strong initiative and leadership skills
