Job Description: DGM-Plant & Wood Procurement

Industry: Plywood & MDF Manufacturing

Location: Kolkata

Reports To: Plant Head / Operations Head

Key Responsibilities:

1. Wood Sourcing & Procurement:

- Develop and implement wood procurement strategies for both plywood and MDF manufacturing.

- Identify and establish long-term relationships with wood suppliers, ensuring the supply of high-quality raw materials.

- Negotiate contracts with vendors to secure competitive pricing, quality standards, and sustainable wood sources.

2. Vendor Management:

- Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international wood suppliers.

- Evaluate vendor performance regularly and ensure compliance with company standards.

- Ensure timely delivery of wood to meet production requirements while maintaining cost efficiency.

3. Market Analysis & Forecasting:

- Stay updated on the latest trends and regulations in the wood industry, especially regarding sustainable sourcing and certifications (e.g., FSC).

- Conduct market analysis to anticipate wood price fluctuations and supply risks.

- Develop procurement forecasts based on production schedules and market conditions.

4. Inventory Management:

- Monitor and manage wood inventory levels, ensuring optimal stock without disruptions to production.

- Implement systems for accurate tracking of inventory, quality, and wood utilization.

5. Compliance & Sustainability:

- Ensure all procurement activities comply with environmental and legal regulations, especially concerning sustainable forestry practices.

- Promote sustainable wood sourcing initiatives to meet company's environmental goals.

6. Team Leadership:

- Lead and mentor the wood procurement team, ensuring high levels of performance and collaboration.

- Provide training and development to procurement staff to enhance their knowledge of the wood industry.

Key Requirements:

Experience:

- Minimum 12-15 years of experience in wood procurement, with a strong background in sourcing for plywood and MDF production.

- Proven experience at the DGM level or equivalent, handling large-scale procurement in the manufacturing industry.

- Experience in handling wood procurement for multiple manufacturing plants is highly desirable.

Education:

- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Forestry, or related fields is preferred. An MBA would be an added advantage.

Skills:

- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build strategic vendor partnerships.

- Excellent knowledge of wood types, quality standards, and the forestry supply chain.

- Expertise in sustainable wood sourcing and compliance with environmental regulations.

- Good leadership and team management skills.

- Proficient in inventory management software and procurement tools.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience working with international suppliers and knowledge of global wood markets.
