About the Role:
We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and oversee all EHS activities at our dynamic and mission-critical construction campus/Data Center site. This senior role requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of construction safety, a proven track record of implementing and managing robust EHS programs, and the ability to drive a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership, communication, and reporting skills, and will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel on site.
Responsibilities:
EHS Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive EHS management system that aligns with relevant regulations, standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001), and best practices.
- Create and enforce site-specific safety plans, procedures, and protocols to address potential hazards associated with construction activities, including but not limited to excavation, heavy equipment operation, electrical work, and working at heights.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify and mitigate potential safety and environmental risks.
Compliance and Regulatory Management:
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal EHS regulations and standards.
- Stay abreast of changes in EHS legislation and industry best practices, and implement necessary updates to programs and procedures.
- Manage all interactions with regulatory agencies and conduct internal and external EHS audits.
Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs for all site personnel, including employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety awareness and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Ensure all personnel are properly trained and certified for their respective tasks.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
- Lead and conduct thorough investigations of all incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all incidents, investigations, and EHS activities.
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate EHS reports to management and relevant stakeholders.
Contractor Management:
- Oversee the EHS performance of all subcontractors and ensure they adhere to site-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct pre-qualification assessments and regular audits of subcontractor EHS programs.
- Collaborate with contractors to develop and implement joint safety initiatives.
Emergency Response Planning:
- Develop and maintain an effective emergency response plan to address potential emergencies, such as fires, medical emergencies, and environmental spills.
- Conduct regular emergency drills and simulations to ensure preparedness.
- Manage first aid and medical response on site.
Environmental Management:
- Ensure proper environmental controls are in place to prevent pollution and minimize environmental impact.
- Manage waste disposal, erosion control, and other environmental aspects of the project.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
Leadership and Communication:
- Provide strong leadership and guidance to the EHS team and promote a positive safety culture.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including senior management, employees, and contractors.
- Prepare and present clear and concise EHS reports and presentations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a senior EHS management role, with a strong focus on construction safety.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience on site.
- Experience delivering mission-critical projects, preferably in the data center or similar industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
- Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is highly preferred. -
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, NEBOSH) are highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and other relevant EHS guidelines.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective EHS management systems.
- Strong experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
- Strong reporting skills.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
