Position Overview/Responsibilities:
- Perform technical qualification of prospects by developing a thorough understanding business and IT requirements and recommending appropriate solutions
- Communicate customers' requirements and competitive solutions to engineering team and product management teams and assist with technical response
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of knowledge bases, product documentation and tutorial videos
- Pro-actively nourish relationships with customers from the initial consultation through development of prototypes and deployment into a production environment. Anticipate technical problems, assist in using solutions effectively, communicate best practices and provide technical support
- Develop demonstrations, presentations, benchmarking tools and other assets to support sales and marketing efforts
- Deliver on/off-site standard and customized training courses for end users
- Provide on-site consulting services as needed
- Provide input to product management on win/loss analysis from completed evaluations, and drive future product direction through feedback with existing customers
- Keep up-to-date with competitive products and industry developments
- Represent the company at conferences, meet-ups and other events as necessary
- Estimated 20-30% travel time
- Duties and projects as assigned
Experience/Requirements:
- 5 or more years experience in pre-sales, post sales or other customer facing roles in business intelligence/data analytics, distributed computing, or data warehousing domains
- Knowledge of the local market and customer base is required
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills - ability to present to both a technical and business audience at senior management levels (CTO, Chief Architect, VP of Development, etc.)
- Strong business analysis skills and deep understanding of analytics and reporting methodologies (ad hoc, KPI, etc.) and supporting technologies (e.g. BI, Data Warehousing BPM/BAM tools)
- Business consulting and/or consultative selling experience in complex enterprise software buying environments
- Experience working in a dynamic startup environment is a plus
- Experience with MySQL, Sybase IQ, Teradata, columnar databases a plus
- Experience with Hadoop, MapReduce, Aster Data, Greenplum, or other MPP DBs a plus
- Working knowledge of UNIX environments
- Java development experience a plus
- Demonstrated successful record of driving sales and consistently achieving or exceeding quotas
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or similar discipline or equivalent work experience
- Literate, communicative, client-friendly, and flexible
