Skills - Excellent report-writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; a flair for numbers; and exceptional technical accounting and IFRS skills.
The role will involve the following:
- Carrying out investigative research and financial due diligence in order to uncover issues in earnings quality and fraudulent and misleading accounting
- Studying annual and quarterly financial reports, presentations, call transcripts, and other publicly available information on companies as well as identifying any material issues/concerns and deviations from relevant local and international accounting standards
- Identifying instances where financial statements do not record the economic substance of a transaction or possess inaccurate accounting or where the accounting treatment may have been misused to change the outlook of the results
- Studying companies: corporate governance practices and comparing these with accepted practices
- Performing competitor analyses
- Interpreting the impact of identified issues on companies earnings and value; and
- Writing concise reports on findings and conclusions.
Required background
- ACCA or CA Associate Membership (with distinctions in accounting and audit subjects)
- A degree in Finance and Accounting, with a first-class result
- The CFA qualification will be considered an advantage
- A minimum four years of relevant work experience and another four years- work experience in a Big 4 audit firm
- Strong accounting technical capability
- Sound working knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP
- Flawless communication skills in written and spoken English
- Excellent knowledge of advanced MS Excel and Word
- Good analytical and number-crunching skills and conceptual thinking
- The capability to work independently under minimum supervision and to be a team player
- A strong ability to pay attention to detail and to meet tight deadlines by working long hours
