What is underwriting?
Process of selecting, classifying, analyzing and assuming risk according to insurability.
Underwriting of a risk involves consideration of material facts on the basis of which a decision will be taken whether to accept the risk and if so at what rate of premium
Role of underwriters:
- Underwriters are needed to identify and calculate the risk of loss from policyholders, establish appropriate premium rates, and write policies that cover this risk. An insurance company may lose business to competitors if the underwriter appraises risks too conservatively, or it may have to pay excessive claims if the underwriting actions are too liberal.
- To make comprehensive analysis of the portfolio of the client and submit quotes to SC UW team within time limits specified.
- Coordinating with RI dept for fac cases and special acceptance cases Monitoring of IC ratios -Product wise and remedial measures.
- Monthly analysis of portfolio in terms of quality, lost accounts, rate movement, compliance of GIC Re notified occupancy, placement of fac cases, hazard grade, major claim reported.
- Vetting of CO authority policies including fac driven, SAT. w Training w Product development and new add ons.
- Networking with the Sales, Operations and Claims, Risk Management, RI team for troubleshooting.
- Support to marketing team w Assist Segment Head ( Property UW) in achieving overall growth in the agreed pattern of business and ensure profitability.
- System development and UAT
- War room discussion with CO Sales and Regional team for large risks
- Assisting National Manager for monthly review with Service Centres w Data analysis
- Process development
- Quotation for tender and coordination with other Insurers
