Head of Professional Development Institute
Role Purpose:
- In addition to understanding effective, research-based professional development standards and delivery models, the Head of Professional Development will demonstrate knowledge of the skill necessary to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- The goal of this position is to make significant contributions to improving student achievement by designing, delivering and promoting high quality professional learning and communicating the CMRGI's high expectations for each student, teacher, faculty and administrator.
The role involves Direct Line management responsibility for two teams, which are as follows:
- Facilitator Team, consisting of Program Specialists
- PD Admin/Coordinator Team
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Head of Professional Development will be responsible accomplishing the following:
1. Strategic Direction and Leadership:
- Work with the leadership team to determine trajectory of organization
- Support the alignment of capacity building and program strategy development.
- Assist key leadership team members in creating guidelines and policies that integrate CMRGI's values, both as they are outlined formally in the employee handbook and as they are lived and experienced in practice.
- Foster a team-oriented, supportive, accountable work environment. Represent CMRGI at local events, community gatherings, or workshops and training.
- Contribute to written reports, proposals, and internal and external communications.
2. Oversee Professional Development and Training through PDI Institute:
- Design, maintain, oversee and evaluate an annual professional development program initiative and budget for training opportunities for all staff .
- Ensures that training aligns with the mission, culture, instruction, curriculum, assessments and learning area purposes.
- Develops and implements school and university wide professional learning programs in alignment with agreed goals and initiatives.
- Leads professional development workshops that drive highest-impact and improvements in teacher practice in areas such as classroom management, unit planning, lesson planning, inquiry-based learning techniques, instructional design, in-class technology integration etc.
- Analyzes and uses data to identify professional development needs and to evaluate, improve and report on program effectiveness.
- Creates in-person, online and blended learning programs that are tailored for all stakeholders across the institution including school leaders, middle managers, teachers, faculty members, curriculum designers and other staff .
- Ensures the implementation of other professional learning approaches including learning clusters and whole-school PD.
- Participates in the development of the PD calendar to ensure adequate professional learning time.
- Assists in creating documented and standardized teaching routines and procedures for CMR K-12 and Ekya Schools.
- Designs observation, walk-through and conference templates for data collection.
- Coach supervisors through their oversight of supervisees' professional goal-setting and benchmarking across all levels.
- Supports school leaders to provide high-impact, actionable feedback to teachers on a weekly basis.
- Creates and implements the strategic professional development, faculty evaluation and supervision plan.
- Oversee the growth and execution of the Leadership Cohort program, a cohort of selected staff with stated professional growth plan.
- Cultivates and shares up-to-date knowledge of the research base in instruction and professional learning with relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborates and maintains the recording and reporting of professional development hours and participation.
- Keeps abreast of innovative professional development techniques to provide the highest quality of professional development activities.
3. Team Management:
- Lead, manage and develop the professional development team, establishing and maintaining high levels of customer service within the team.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget to agreed targets and KPIs, monitoring and reporting performance and recommending contingency plans and actions to meet commercial targets
Qualifications:
- Understanding of Danielson's Framework to structure Ekya's evaluation and supervision plan.
- Knowledge and experience in using Understanding by Design Framework would be a definite plus.
- Demonstrated ability to create a strong professional community focused on student development.
- Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies.
- Ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.

Professional Background:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's; A Masters or Doctorate is preferred.
- Teacher training experience is mandatory.
- Minimum of five years of experience adeptly designing and facilitating workshops and groups that respond to evolving staff needs.
- Minimum of five years of experience leading training with capacity building outcomes and program impact.
- Minimum five year years of supervisory experience, with an emphasis on coaching staff through career transitions and meeting stretch goals.
