Clean Electric is a Series A funded battery tech company focused on designing and manufacturing advanced li-ion batteries for EVs and energy storage applications which enable 12-min rapid charging, long life and unrivalled safety. We are pushing the boundaries of the EV industry with our Direct Contact Liquid Cooling (DCLC) thermal management, integrated cell-to-pack (CTP) architecture, and proprietary dynamic charging algorithms running on a custom-engineered in-house battery management system.
Founded in 2020 by IIT-BHU graduates Akash Gupta, Abhinav Roy and Ankit Joshi, we are today rapidly scaling and deploying our tech across 2W and 3W segments with plans to enter 4W and commercial vehicles as well. The team comprises multiple IIT, IIM graduates and industry professionals and we are backed by some of the leading Indian VCs.
Role Overview:
- As the Category Manager at Clean Electric, you will be the P&L owner for the battery technology category, responsible for driving profitability, growth, and market leadership. This pivotal role combines strategy and product planning, sales and business development, and project delivery to ensure the category's financial success. You will define the product roadmap, lead cross-functional teams, and oversee the lifecycle of products, ensuring they meet market demands and align with Clean Electric's innovation and sustainability goals. The categories include e-2W, e-3W L3, e-3W L5, e-4W, energy storage etc.
- This senior role demands an experienced professional who can manage all aspects of the category, from strategic direction to operational execution, while maintaining strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
Role Description and Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy and P&L Management:
- Develop and execute a long-term category strategy, aligning with Clean Electric's overall business objectives.
- Act as the P&L owner for the battery technology category, accountable for revenue and growth, profitability, and cost management.
- Set financial targets for the category, managing budgets, pricing strategies, and profitability goals.
- Analyze market trends, competition, and consumer insights to shape strategic initiatives and ensure category performance.
Product Planning and Innovation:
- Lead the product planning process, defining the roadmap and prioritizing key projects based on market needs and financial goals.
- Oversee the full product lifecycle, from concept development to launch, ensuring all products meet technical, market, and profitability requirements.
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to develop innovative battery solutions that align with customer demands and sustainability standards.
Sales and Business Development:
- Work closely with sales and marketing teams to create and implement business development strategies aimed at driving category growth.
- Engage with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to understand their needs, developing tailored solutions that enhance category performance.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand into new markets, industries, and geographies.
Project Delivery and Execution:
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery of category projects, from concept to commercialization.
- Oversee the execution of product launches, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and go-to-market strategies.
- Continuously monitor project performance, making necessary adjustments to meet business and category goals.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- 4-5 years of experience in business roles including sales, BD, product or other cross functional roles in a +relevant field
- Undergraduate degree from Tier 1 institute
- Engineering background and / or automotive experience will be preferred
- Post graduate or MBA is preferred but not mandatory

- P&L Ownership: Demonstrated experience in owning the P&L of a product category or business unit, with a focus on driving revenue growth and profitability.
- Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to define and execute long-term business and category strategies.
- Business Development Expertise: Track record of driving market expansion, building strong customer relationships, and developing new business opportunities.
- Product Lifecycle Management: Deep experience in managing product lifecycles, from ideation to market launch, ensuring alignment with financial and market objectives.
- Financial Acumen: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and profitability targets.
- Cross-functional Leadership: Ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, sales, marketing, and operations.
- Negotiation Skills: Expertise in negotiating supplier contracts, partnerships, and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Innovation Focus: Passion for driving innovation in battery technology and clean energy solutions.
- Technical acumen sufficient to understand product complexity and contribute to technical sales
Location: Near Chakan, Pune, India (on-site)
Pay and Benefits: Competitive pay as per market standard including ESOPs, will be evaluated based on profile and skills.
