Role Summary
The Chief Procurement Officer will be responsible for overseeing and managing the procurement of raw materials, including stainless steel (SS) and mild steel (MS) components. The ideal candidate must have deep industry knowledge, strong vendor networks, and expertise in negotiating large-scale raw material purchases in both domestic and international markets. The role requires leadership in optimizing procurement strategies, cost management, and ensuring an efficient supply chain to support the company's aggressive growth plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute procurement strategies for key raw materials, including ferroalloys, coal, nickel, chromium, manganese, and scrap metals.
- Come with, Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international vendors,
- Oversee direct procurement (raw materials) and indirect procurement (machinery, consumables, and other essential items).
- Ensure cost-effective procurement practices while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Negotiate long-term contracts and pricing structures to optimize procurement costs.
- Monitor global market trends, including the London Stock Exchange's impact on nickel pricing, and strategize accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including import/export documentation.
- Lead and mentor a procurement team of 15 members, including 4+2 key senior professionals.
- Drive efficiency improvements and cost-saving initiatives across procurement functions.
- Support the company's expansion, including procurement planning for upcoming greenfield projects.
Candidate Profile & Required Skills
- Minimum of 15+ years of experience in procurement, with at least 10 years in the steel or metals industry.
- Proven experience in sourcing raw materials like for SS, MS, and scrap metal
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Deep understanding of supply chain logistics, market trends, and international procurement.
- Leadership and stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to work within a legacy organization while driving modernization.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, or a related field. MBA or post-graduate qualification preferred.
