CEO – Coal Mining Business - BBSR, Kolkata, Mumbai
Job Purpose:
- To provide strategic leadership and direction to the global coal mining business ensuring profitable growth and achievement of the business goals and objectives in line with the organization's philosophy, mission and strategy.
Key challenges:
- To develop business and operational plans in line with the Group’s vision for the Coal Mining Business
- To Identify and develop new business opportunities that fit the overall business strategy and develop strategies for capitalising them
- To engage stakeholders and create awareness for the MDO Model of Coal Mining
- To stay updated on recent developments in the sector, policies, regulations, risks and trends
- To operationalising various individual sites and deliver results to stakeholders as committed
Overview of responsibilities:
- Design, develop and direct the implementation of business strategy that includes identifying new business opportunities and operationalising existing opportunities
- Assume full P&L accountability of business units and review business performance to ensure achievement of budgeted results
- Plan and direct the organization’s activities to achieve stated/ agreed targets and standards of performance, quality, culture and compliance
- Oversee end to end Project Management, Budget, MIS and performance reporting for sites already identified for implementation
- Develop a strong network with key stakeholders within industry, Government, NGO groups and business sectors
- Report to shareholders, board, parent company’s board on organisational plans and performance as required
- Address all customer related issues proactively to achieve customer delight
- Develop and build organisational culture and values and maintain organisation’s reputation in the market
- Play a key advisory role in formulating/ reviewing/ updating policies, systems and processes of the organisation
- Build a competent team and manage people effectively through implementation of group HR systems and policies
- Ensure conformance to organization’s requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations and policies
Knowledge and skills required:
- Experience of the Coal Mining business models currently prevalent including MDO
- Understanding all the nuances like value drivers, cost drivers etc., of the Contract Coal Mining Business.
- Ability to engage key stakeholders in the Government, Coal India and other Government/ Private entities like SEB’s
- Extensive managerial and leadership capabilities in applying best practices
- Effective verbal and written communication as well as inter personal skills facilitating effective negotiation with stakeholders and partners
- Ability to exercise sound business judgment and commercial prudence in order to set direction and establish priorities
- Ability to adapt to Group Values and Culture
- Ability to carry a large team
- Ability and experience of managing multiple units from a distance
Qualification & Experience:
- Engineering Mining Background with a post graduate qualification in Business Management with First Class Mines certification (Coal)
- 25 years of experience out of which 5 years at a Leadership position in a comparable Coal Mining Set Up
- Previous experience of stakeholder engagement, including Government, Coal India etc., will be advantageous
- Managing multi-location teams
The company is currently in the businesses of Iron ore Mining, Wind Power and Nobel Ferro Alloys. As a part of its growth strategy, organisation has ventured into Coal Business which will include owning coal assets within and outside India, and contract coal mining in India. It aims to become the largest contract coal mining company in India. It is looking forward to make joint venture agreements with State Electricity Boards, Coal India Ltd and its subsidiaries and other Public sector and Private Sector Companies in India.
