Senior Analyst - Operations Research

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a strong candidate with Operations Research and advanced analytics experience to fill a Senior Analyst position within BCG's Advanced Analytics team. The role provides an opportunity to leverage analytics methodologies to deliver value to BCG's case teams through providing analytics subject matter expertise, and accelerated execution support. The position collaborates with case teams to independently gather requirements, specify, design, develop, deliver and support analytic solutions serving client needs. It provides technical support through providing deeper understanding of a problem and processes to formulate high quality and efficient analytic solutions. Assignments will range from answering questions around Operations Research or analytical methods to working on advanced optimization cases for specified durations. Typical problems that the team has solved over last couple of years have been on network optimization, production planning & scheduling, simulating supply chain / operations using range of tools such as AIMMS, Python, AnyLogic, Llamasoft.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Rapid business requirement gathering and analysis

- Work with the project stakeholders to identify business needs and gather requirements for data analysis or deployment of already existing BI tools

- Collaborate with project team members in writing prioritized business requirements documentation, including scope definition and statement of work

Business intelligence and Operations Research Analysis tools delivery and support

- Deliver leveraging existing & new Operations Research tools as needed (Eg. AIMMS, Anylogic, Llamasoft, Python etc.)

- Provide training, assistance, and support to tool users

- Collaborate with available resources and other Operations Research experts across the firm when required - identify, research, and resolve problems and issues reported by tool users, case teams or clients

General requirements

- Manages team on projects with case teams, ensures execution and is responsible for overall quality

- Leads the communication and manages workflow to ensure case team satisfaction

- Reviews & assesses the relevancy of documents in existing topic/sector-related knowledge base

- Advises, shares and trains on Operations Research content knowledge with other Analysts

- Assists on designing the on-boarding schedule, & provide day-to-day apprenticeship & coaching for Analysts with guidance from Expert/Manager

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education or Certifications

- Master's degree in operations research, applied mathematics, business analytics, statistics, economics, computer science and/or bachelors in engineering/technology

Work Experience

- At least 4-5 years within relevant domain of operations research across industries and work experience providing advanced analytics solutions in a commercial setting

- Consulting experience will be considered a plus

Functional /Technical Skills

- Must have excellent command over various operation research techniques and related approaches such as :

- Linear Programming

- Mathematical programming language such as AMPL

- Scheduling techniques

- Data processing for basic statistical analysis (eg. Edit data types, grouping or binning cases, reviewing outliers)

- Working experience in building analytical solutions and delivering tangible business value for in two or more of the following fields:

- Production planning and Queuing

- Supply chain management

- Inventory control model

- Resource allocation

- Queuing Analysis

- Supply chain management

- Production planning

- Excellent knowledge in at least two of the following analytics tools:

- Matlab

- Good MS Excel/VBA preferred

- What's Best!

- Premium Solver

- Gurobi and / or CPLEX solvers

- Arena

- Solving optimization problems using open source such as Python & R

- Knowledge of some of the following tools would be considered a plus

- AIMMS

- Anylogic

- Crystal Ball

- Alteryx

- SQL ETL (SSIS) / Oracle ETL (OWB)

- Data management/Relational databases - understanding of data and data relationships at the table and attribute level.
