Big Data CTO - eCommerce Startup

We are a startup entrepreneurs and all-around awesome people looking to round out the team with outstanding technical hires. Our startup is currently in stealth, with seed financing. Version 1.0 of our product is nearly complete, we have good customer feedback and launch commitment.

We are preparing for user acceptance testing and should be live by the end of Q2. The back end is completely cloud based, utilizing LAMP on AWS components (RDS/Redis/SQS/S3/EBS) and caters to omni-channel commerce and marketing across various consumer touchpoints - online/retail/social. The backend is python / hadoop / mahout recommendations real-time predictive analytics and machine learning.

What we- re looking for:

- Solid understanding of prevailing big data platforms (Hadoop Hive PIG HBase ZooKeeper Elastisearch etc), and the vision to define and code a cloud-based architecture that can scale to meet requirements of big clients like telecom operators and big retail companies.

- Use statistical and machine learning techniques to create scalable classification, regression, recommendation, object recognition or text understanding systems.

- You must have an excellent command of the complete modern web stack (LAMP) and mobile development frameworks, as well as a solid understanding of scalability, modularity and sys-ops best practices.

- You bring working knowledge of our current languages/db, which include PHP (zend framework front end), NodeJS, jQuery, MySQL in the front end and NoSQL (MongoDB/Cassandra/Graph DB), Hadoop and the AWS environment. Hands on working knowledge of APIs based SaaS model is a must. Our data pipeline and analysis has to scale to several million user profiles.

- Expertise in Python/Django/ DRF and REST APIs is a must. Although this is a key leadership position, we're looking for someone who is just as happy to dive into the code as they are setting high level vision or mentoring junior developers.

- A history of accomplishment that demonstrates hands on ability (we are talking actual code-writing), great architectural decision-making, scaling / road-mapping of products/services from start-up to a huge number of users, and collaborative partnership with a talented leadership team.

- Actions speak a lot louder than words. We would like to see your past work in building scalable web systems, knowledge of working with APIs and SDK, deep server side understating of solution architecture, data model design, paging/caching etc. As a person, we want to look for curiosity, confidence, fearlessness and an ability to take ownership of failures.

- Our CTO can creatively solve problems and imagine new solutions, even if someone else hasn't done it before. An innovator with "geek cred." Our view is, CTOs are multi-taskers that aren't just coders locked in some basement - they will play a vital role in our company's strategic plan and growth. Not only does he/she need to have a high level of diversified technical prowess and proficiency, but they also need to possess strong leadership and project management capabilities.
