Job Title – AVP SPO Payments Hub

Client – Large European Bank (Captive outfit)

Overall Job Purpose –

The role holder will manage a team responsible for processing all the coupons and redemption activities on Structured Notes issued by Bank and will need to ensure all required payments are made on time, accurately, with the appropriate controls as well as being the point of escalation contact for any escalated issues from both internal and external clients.

Equipped with strong payment/market settlement background as well as sound control knowledge on payments, candidate is expected to identify and drive initiatives that will mitigate risk and streamline processes to improve the efficiency of tasks performed by the team.

This role will require candidates to manage and resolve queries independently from the sales support teams as majority of the payments impacts premier and core clients of the firm. Ability to communicate and articulate issue, root cause and resolution is definitely key in ensuring success in the role.

In addition, candidate will manage and run the team in ensuring daily BAU and non BAU activities are managed.

Key Responsibilities

45% Control and Execution

- The candidate will be running a team that is responsible of processing an approximate of GBP 500 million in payments a day, as such, a key requirement of the candidate will be to build and maintain a strong control and execution framework to mitigate operations risk.

- Perform control checks and authorisation as well as ensuring accuracy and timeliness of cash payments to Paying Agents and clearing agents.

- Perform control checks and authorisation as well as ensuring accurate and timeliness of stock delivery/redemption across multiple markets and clients

- Ensuring the team has the correct cash / stock element has been reflected in our books and records

- Validation of, processes and resolving any discrepancies following a renunciations / markdowns on Plc paper

- Resolving cash/stock payment discrepancies and collaborate with the respective middle offices and issuing paying agents in identifying and conducting root cause analysis to ensure avoidance of recurrence in issue.

Responsible for interacting with staff at all levels of the business, including but not limited too:

- Senior Legal partners

- Senior Sales and Trading partners

- Multiple global Ops infrastructure teams

- Change Management teams

- External service providers (IPAs, ICSDs, Bloomberg)

- Cleints

35% Non BAU activities

- Influence and collaborate with respective middles offices in improving he existing processes within their infrastructures

- Analyse and present daily/weekly MIS to senior management. An important and core responsibility of the candidate is to provide tactical and strategic recommendations for improvements. The candidate will own and implement the changes required.

- Drive and own system migrations in ensuring completion of UAT.

- Liaise with Change Management team to help shape initial ideas into firm system requirements, ensuring that they are sufficiently comprehensive and detailed to support effective system development

- To use market system-specific knowledge and technical expertise to assist in the definition of technical strategies and regulatory changes within the market.

- Responsible in attestation of regulatory requirements/polices such as client money on a daily basis

- Own projects and governance of the initiatives in ensuring milestones are meet and escalation of roadblocks to management when appropriate

20% Management and Leadership

- Lead a reconciliations team, assigning daily tasks and proactively identifying ways to improve the end to end and flow and subsequently the control environment

- Undertake objective setting, regularly assessing the teams performance and providing feedback.

- Identify development needs of staff and assist them in addressing their development needs through guidance and coaching

- Identify own development needs and pro-actively drive development, using all available means to achieve world class standards.

Professional/technical experience

The right candidate should have at leas 8 years of experience in managing an operations team and be able to demonstrate that they have a thorough understanding of making payments settlement and up to date technical knowledge. In addition, they will need to be capable of working independently and innovatively, and have experience of running a team in a high volume environment. Knowledge of Swift Alliance and Intellimatch would be an advantage.

Managerial experience

The right candidate will have extensive experience of managing teams. They will demonstrate a practical knowledge of the implementation and execution of all HR tasks including but not limited to, performance development and managing attendance. The ideal candidate will create, prepare and control the management information related to the team and have the ability to interact and communicate with staff at all levels. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead the team while motivating and developing their direct reports and the wider group. The right candidate will demonstrate a good commercial and risk awareness.

Academic and professional qualifications

The successful candidate will have a high level of education including Higher grade and preferably be degree educated, or equivalent. Industry recognised qualifications are desirable.

Language skills

The successful candidate will have an excellent command of the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Personal attributes

The successful candidate will have the ability to prioritise and work under pressure, with both the quantity and quality of work being produced to a consistently high standard. The right candidate will be enthusiastic and pro-active and can operate within a global team environment. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to ‘tailor’ as appropriate to their audience. They will be able to structure and order their daily workload and will be client service orientated.
