Position Title: Head – O&M
Job Responsibility Level : VP/AVP
Business: Energy– Coal Plant
Department/Function:
The Head – O&M’s Roles & Responsibilities are as follows:
- The Head – O&M heads the Operation, Chemistry and Maintenance of the Operating Plant and will report to the Plant Manager
- He is responsible for the day to day O&M of the Plant. He shall schedule and conduct regular meetings
- He assists the Plant Manager for finalizing the Annual Operating Plan for the Plant and to achieve the Targets set by the Management
- He is responsible for adopting the best Engineering Practices, Systems and Procedures in the Operation and Maintenance of the Plant
- He is responsible for devising & implementation of Management Plans for improvement in the Plant performance
- He is responsible for implementation of Integrated Management Systems and other Continuous Improvement Plans which will bring awards and recognition to Plant
- He is responsible for the Planning of all Maintenance Activities and submission of MIS on time
- He is responsible for the Plant Performance, Energy Management & Conservation, Efficiency, PLF, Availability, Reliability, etc.. He shall implement a trend & track tool to monitor the Plant Performance. He should also ensure regular Technical Audits.
- He is responsible for all Statutory Compliances related to the Operating Plant like the Boiler Certification, Pressure Vessels Testing, Tools & Tackles Calibration & Testing, etc. and maintaining all records of the validity of the calibration certifications.
- He is responsible for the protection of Environment and operating the Plant within the permissible emission norms.
- He is responsible for the Occupation Health and Safety of all the individuals working in the Plant. He shall promote Safety & Safe working practices including PTW systems.
- He is responsible for the Spares & Consumables planning, inspection and prudent usage. He has to ensure optimization of the Inventory Costs.
- He is responsible for the development of the Employees’ skill sets for taking up higher responsibilities. He will identify the Technical training requirements for the Employees and organize it through various sources including the OEM
- He is responsible for creating a Talent Pipe line for preparing Power Plant Professionals for the future needs of the Group
- He is assisted by the Dept. Heads of Operation/ Chemistry; Main Plant Mech. Maint.; Offsite Mech. Maint.; Elect. Maint. C&I Maint; Civil & Infra. Maint. Planning & Performance; etc.

Qualifications, Experience & Key skills
Qualifications
Years of experience
- BE/ B.Tech (Mech/ Elect)
- 14 to 20 years out of which minimum 6 years to be in O&M of Power Plant >100MW Capacity
Key skills
- Good Management Skills to develop a very dedicated and motivated Team for O&M
- Ability to develop and implement good systems for the Power Plant Operation & Maintenance
- Ability to identify opportunities for improving performance and implementation of targeted works
- Good inter-personnel skills to manage the day-to-day activities of O&M in the Plant
- Ability to anticipate major issues – both technical & IR – take remedial actions and the confidence to manage situations
- Ability to train/ coach junior employees to establish a pipeline for Power Plant professionals
- Ability to Plan & execute major activities in the Plant like the Capital Overhaul & Scheduled Maintenance
