About Financial Control

Financial control team is responsible for the timely closure of financial books for Legal entities on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Financial Control is also responsible for supporting central controls which are critical monitoring checks for ensuring the accurate legal entity reporting.

Overall purpose of role:

- Manager of BFSS Financial Control team for the Corporate Financial Control responsibilities

- Ensuring smooth functioning of the processes and compliance to procedures, timetables and active engagement in team meetings

Key Accountabilities:

Month-end closure & Reporting

- Ensures that the integrity of the financial data remains within the highest standards, by ensuring that adequate financial and process controls are in place

- Uses expertise in assisting in the Financial Close & Reporting process

- Knowledge of financial reporting systems, preferably SAP

- Comprehensive Financial knowledge particularly in following fields :

Financial statements

Financial analysis

Sales Finance

Cost Accrual

Flash Process

Balance Sheet Reconciliation

Statutory reporting

Hierarchy and Restatements

Identifying and solving data quality issues

Reconciliations

Accounting entries including Accruals, Prepayment and Intercompany

- Build effective communication channels between India/UK colleagues

- Responsible for timely and accurate closure of financial books by analysing and reviewing the financials and take full ownership for the ME close process for Corporate entities

- Monthly PL verification and prepare product level PL Analysis, identify variances and gaps / inconsistencies and follow up to appropriate closure.

- Prepare and review PRA 15 return. Also review various IFRS, RACE and FINREP deliverables and any other reporting requirements

Change Management/ Support Business Strategy and Planning

- Ensure aware of process changes and cascade across all impacted team members

- Regularly communicate with impacted stakeholders the status of any change and issue resolution actions taken

- Strive to deliver the change agenda on owned or impacted areas on a timely basis

- Provide expertise to the planning and research of a variety of change management projects (e.g. automations, reductions in timetable, process re-engineering, enhancements etc)

- Conduct regular meetings with team to ensure open communication of changes or obtain update on progress of actions owned by the team

- Technical accounting expertise; providing financial (IFRS/UKGAAP) accounting expertise and advice to the business on relevant corporate products.

- Supporting the business in evaluating various accounting scenarios; understanding the business requirements, application of financial standard requirements to scenario, and clear communication of recommendations

Controls / Compliance

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Policies and Policy Standards

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

- Principal contact point for BFSS Financial Control team with the client

- Ensure Client expectations of operational performance and efficiency are met

- Report to the Client at the end of every month on performance of the team, adherence to SLAs and status of ongoing issues

- Escalation of issues and tractions against action plans on a timely basis

- Identify process gaps and collaborate with the Client to formulate solutions

- Manage and develop effective relationships with Business Units, other functions in wider finance

- Liaise with key stakeholders across the business units to identify common issues, opportunities for improvements and act as a central subject matter expert

- Communicate process / reporting changes and share knowledge required to successfully implement necessary changes

Decision-making and Problem Solving

- Required to provide detailed analysis and information on complex queries/problems and communicate to stakeholders on proposed solutions and recommendations

- Minimal supervisory oversight and able to perform duties with minimal or no guidance

- Able to perform good analysis, resolve problems and initiate workable innovative recommendations and solutions to take the function forward to achieve better performance efficiencies. In addition, the proposed recommendations should be good enough to be implemented by the operations/management.

Person Specification:

Basic qualification:

- Financial Services industry experience

- Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, CPA (India), CIMA or equivalent

Preferred qualification:

- Experience in Financial control / monitoring function or audit function

- Banking or Big4 experience preferred, but not essential

Technical Skills/Competencies:

- Effective team management and leadership skills

- Effective Communication skills spoken & written

- Articulate, possessing strong influencing and negotiating skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple business manner

- Ability to work under pressure and to tight timetables.

- Strong Planning & Organisational skills

- Strong knowledge of Windows (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

- Proficient in SAP

- Problem Solving/ Decision Making

Accounting knowledge / experience:

- Detailed understanding of key financial statements / international accounting standards

- Extensive Financial Analysis skills

- Detailed Statutory / regulatory reporting

- Experience of financial services industry

Knowledge of financial reporting systems

- Hyperion Financial Management (HFM)

- SAP P11 / BW

- MS Office
