Reports to : VP - Engineering
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strategic and operational planning for the direction and control of product development activities.
- Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the department.
- Assure that department achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame.
- Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position.
- Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of manager and support resource / mentor.
- Assure that product is designed for specific needs, but with wider applications in mind.
- Hire and direct staff group members to acquire necessary resources to meet scheduled commitments.
- Ensure implementation and refinement as required of formal process to support the product development process.
- Ensure that product development is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements.
Ideal Experience
- 12 - 14 years- engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a management position
- Strong operational and project management skills
- Demonstrated team building and leadership skills
- Solid understanding of supply chain functions like sourcing, warehouse, manufacturing, delivery, logistics relevant to product design and development
- Experience of building technology platforms and products for supply chain functions
- Out of the box thinker- must be key driver contributing to the products roadmap and willing to take innovative product risk while balancing the road map for on time deliverables.
- Competent in electronic hardware and software design.
- Previously worked in an environment that requires exceptional scalability and extensibility
- Manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities.
- Strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving and change management skills.
- Education from a premier institute - BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science required; MA or dual BA preferred.
- Familiarity with current technology trends
- Worked in a fast growing environment
- Ability to work in a high pressure environment
Technical skills
- Strong experience in Java development, including Spring & Hibernate
- Experience in database design especially in
- MySQL and reasonable depth in NoSQL
- Up to date with current technology trends
- Exceptional design and architectural skills
- Good at designing highly scalable and extensible systems with very high performance.
- Designing and developing webservices, mostly REST.
- Expert in optimising algorithms
- Knowledge of theoretical idea about test automation.
People Management
At least 4 years of experience in managing 20-30 member team with multiple levels of hierarchy
- Should have managed a QA team at some point of time
- Should be good at managing intra/inter team communication
- Good at conflict resolution
- Should be able to speak for the entire tech team and be aware of projects in progress in depth
Project Management
Familiarity with agile/scrum processes
- Strong track record of meeting timelines for complex projects
- Should be able to coordinate across multiple stake holders and align technology with business goals.
Other skills
- Should be able to create short term (3-6 months) tech plans and long term (1-3 years) tech plans
- Should be able to create annual and quarterly tech budgets
- Should be good at resource planning
- Should have experience of handling third party vendors and some knowledge of outsourcing dev/QA work
- Should be an excellent judge of buy vs build decisions

Customer Centricity and Insights: The AVP-SCM should understand customer preferences and what makes them tick. S/he should deep dive into understanding customer behavior in an ever changing market place.

- Understanding consumers well and using insights to develop the strategy
- Incorporating customer feedback and using that to better overall customer experience
- Should be extremely tech savvy to be able to contribute ideas for leveraging technology to enhance customer experience and for customer acquisition.
Team Leadership and Entrepreneurial Streak: The AVP-SCM will have the opportunity to lead and further build a dynamic team, tackling turnover and employee engagement in an entrepreneurial environment. S/he will do this by:
