AVP-CCAR Stress testing

Purpose of Department :

- The Risk-Analytics team provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model development, business strategy implementation, reporting and data management. It forms the information basis for strategic planning by senior management for businesses and enables effective decision making to satisfy business needs and requirements along with addressing unforeseen challenges.

- This role within the Decision Sciences job family supports the Stress Testing team within the Risk Strategy function. The position will report into the VP-Stress Testing Execution, and will be responsible for model execution and support.

- The role of the AVP Stress Testing Execution is to support the end-to-end execution of regulatory and business ask stress tests. This involves estimating the likely impact of economic and financial scenarios on P&L, RWAs, capital and liquidity resources - both for enterprise-wide stress tests and ad-hoc stress tests directed toward specific countries and/or portfolios of interest.


- The successful candidate will work closely with the onshore stress testing team. He/She would be expected to support analysis and review of complex results set describing the performance of the bank.

Job Description :

- This role requires supporting onshore stress testing execution teams whose primary focus is to drive HSBC's Stress Testing program to support Retail Credit business & Risk teams. Hands-on experience is required of all stages in model Execution/Implementation cycle and proven ability to identify data and functional requirements to develop, calibrate and critically review models. 


- Strong knowledge of the documentation aspect of model development is key as the skills to present this information to peer review and independent review of model governance committees. 


- Experience in developing Basel/Capital model on risk factors PD, LGD, EAD would be required with core focus on Retail business (Mortgages, Credit Cards and loans/advances), hands on experience in stress testing model development.

- Hands on experience in stress testing execution of wide range of secured and unsecured retail portfolios, understand the requirement of regulators such as PRA, EBA, HKMA, APRA, MAS, RBI, Bank of Nagara etc. 


- Provide stress testing results for regulatory and business usage submission that include projections of NPL, EAD, Assets, Provisions, LIC, RWA etc. Keep track of evolving regulatory changes and incorporate these changes in the process to make the results in compliance with regulators expectations.

This position will have both individual contributor role and team building/team leading role. Experience of building and running successful high potential team is desirable. 


- The material produced by this team will form the basis of submission to senior management and to regulators. An extremely high standard of accuracy and timeliness will be required. Questions about the material or requests for further review will need to be answered promptly. The applicant will be expected to exercise on-going quality assurance over the work of the team. Other responsibilities will include :

- Understand the requirement in discussion with business partners.

- Collate, test and check independently sourced economics data (forecast and stress) and assess its robustness and fitness for purpose of model development

- Coordinate and identify historical data points for developing models

- Coordinate and compile stress test model results and develop analysis to communicate with wider HSBC group, including Group, Regional and site Risk Strategy

- Ensure adequate documentation and analysis in place for model review committee which involves peer review and independent review committees

- Prepare effective material for dissemination to key business stakeholders at all levels of seniority.

- Support ad-hoc requests in support of the business as necessary

- Ensure timelines around project deliverables are met and all the stake holders are informed about the status of the projects

- Work collaborative with Stress Testing management team to prioritize projects

- Drive standardization of analysis and processes to gain efficiency.

- Develop effective relationship management with diverse functions and businesses

- Stay on top of changing regulatory needs, reporting standards and understand their impact on the day to day work

Other Managerial Responsibility :

1. Responsible for end-to-end project management and hands on delivery when required. He should ensure productivity and output of the team should fall in line with the stated SLAs. Monthly monitoring and review of all projects with stakeholders to ensure that all stated SLAs are met

2. Recruit, on-board, train, coach, develop talent and proactively retain high performing team members of analytics

3. Work with multiple customers/functions on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver in a timely, efficient and effective manner.

4. Manage relationship with key stakeholders in the Business (Onshore and Offshore) to build confidence in team and enable stakeholders investment in development of the team

5. Drive Analytics wide initiatives (Recruitment, Process-efficiency, On-boarding etc...)

6. Responsible for conceptualizing, designing and implementing QA/QC framework for identified processes and ensures adherence and constant improvement

7. Ensure adherence with all the applicable compliance policies (Data security policy, AML, operational risk, Functional manual, Group Compliance Manual, Audit recommendations, Internal Control requirements, regulatory guidelines etc.) and business standards of Organization as applicable. Take timely action on Audit comments and be able to demonstrate compliance with Internal controls

Skills/Experience Required :

- Bachelor's degree in numerate subject, e.g. mathematics/ statistics/ economics/finance or equivalent experience, Master's degree preferred.

- Strong analytical skills with several years of proven business analysis experience or equivalent. Knowledge and understanding of different functions of risk analytics in the context financial services/ banking operations preferred.

- Person should be a process expert and should possesses sound business knowledge of the sector. Prior exposure in stress testing and/or Impairment reserves are preferred

- Good Knowledge of Retail Banking Products (Mortgage, Credit Cards, loans and advances)

- Strong Quantitative background with knowledge of economic and econometric models

- Proven ability to produce clear summaries and reports from complex factual information, including both written documentation and graphical material

- Good organizational, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills

- Preferably, familiarity with bank stress testing including loss and risk estimation techniques is preferred

- Knowledge of SAS, R, SQL and other equivalent analytical tools is a plus

- Ability to comprehend intricate and diverse range of business problems and analyze them with limited or complex data and provide a feasible solution framework.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop and effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas

- Ability to work in cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills and drive for success
