Associate Director - Medical Affairs/Data Governance/Analytics
This analytics leader will be responsible for ensuring business decisions are backed by data driven insights and recommendations from analytics.
For the same, the incumbent will:
- Partner with the US Med Affairs Business Insights and Analytics leaders and take ownership of quality and effectiveness of analyses,
- Structure and refine current delivery by building a strong process-focused culture,
- Plan and build capabilities to meet strategic business needs, and
- Build and leverage relationships with stakeholders across BI&A, GMAO, VEO, BU Medial Affairs
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management and People Leadership:
- Direct the delivery team to take ownership and deliver best possible outcomes through a data and analytics mindset
- Provide end to end oversight and leadership on analytics delivery, including collaboration with cross functional partners to deliver on project goals that align to core Medical Affairs objectives
- Work closely with the US stakeholders to ensure expansion and penetration of analytics use- cases with Medical Affairs Organization
- Develop, prioritize, and implement solutions that help answer Medical Affairs' most critical questions and meet their needs with data driven insights
- Independently query data and summarize key analytics results to quickly answer critical ad hoc business questions
- Collaborate with the BI&A data democratization team to prioritize and develop self-serve dashboards and automated reports. Use dashboard tools to provide analytics expertise and champion teaching the Medical Affairs teams how to use the tools to derive insights in real time
- Create a framework for communication, project management and execution across team to help drive best practices
- Ensure compliance with all privacy and contractual obligations related to the use of data
- Understand any internal/ external risks and help mitigate challenges.
- Be a mentor for team members, and drive upskilling plans for team
- Serve as trusted career advisor, and work with functional leadership and HR to identify career opportunities for these team members, focusing on business and individual needs
- Develop a pipeline of analytics talent and leadership, and contribute to an inclusive community of analytics expert practitioners
Strategic growth and thought leadership:
- Develop deep understanding of Medical Affairs strategy, business goals, challenges and critical objectives (across GMAO & BU Medical Affairs) to ensure analytics deliverables are aligned to the broader strategy
- Strategize on key opportunities/ whitespaces, drive discussions and expand outcomes from for data analytics driven business solutions
- Support BI&A US leadership and Medical Affairs colleagues in developing the analytics strategy, including Medical Affairs Roadmap creation
- Support implementation of the Data & Analytics Governance process in Medical Affairs with goal of creating a forum for cross functional alignment of critical data & analytics priorities across US
- Integrate working model for analytics capabilities across BI&A teams, and where possible, across other teams to drive better cross-team resourcing, cross-pollination of best practices and expansion of capabilities
- Network with industry experts and external consultants as needed to develop, test, and implement new approaches and solutions for analytics outcomes
Required Skills and Expertise:
- 12+ years of relevant experience in an analytical function (BI, data analytics, forecasting etc) supporting Pharma/Lifesciences Commercial ops internally or in consulting; at least 6+ in leading teams
- Strong analytical skills, coupled with business acumen, and an ability to think strategically in an ambiguous environment
- Substantial analytics experience and understanding of complexities in Medical Affairs domain, specialty markets, analytics techniques, and US pharmaceutical business
- Strong track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver and delivering complex cross functional projects
- Demonstrated ability to communicate advanced analytics concepts to a variety of business stakeholders
- Excellent prioritization skills with attention to detail
- Ability to enforce business rules and policies in a constructive but disciplined manner
- Customer-focused mindset in the application of analytics capability to drive decision making
- High level of motivation and a strong desire to find creative solutions to challenging situations
- Working knowledge of statistical programming packages (e.g., R, SAS, Python, MATLAB) and types of predictive models a plus
- Substantial experience in Pharmaceutical Data with an understanding of complexities of data landscapes
- Experience using common data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI)
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Education
- Quantitative background in engineering, statistics, mathematics; OR degree in management/ pharmaceutical or a related field from a premium college
- MBA or other advanced degree a plus
