Department overview:
This Role is part of the Barclays WIM Compliance Advisory Function and comes under the Global Compliance Platform. The team's primary responsibilities are interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements and policies, managing subsequent controls and working closely with WIM businesses to provide direction and interpretation of regulatory requirements on an ongoing basis. The team’s role incorporates an operations and advisory element as well as providing ongoing support for training needs to the business.
Barclays WIM in India operates through multiple legal entities including Barclays Investments & Loans (India) Limited (BILIL), a registered Non Banking Finance Company (NBFC).
The WIM India business offers bespoke credit and investment solutions to affluent, high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals across India through its offices at Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai.
- As the Compliance Officer of BILIL and a member of the India Compliance team, you will be required to work closely with CDD, Compliance colleagues and the relevant Sales team, business/country heads and senior management across WIM to support the effective management of BILIL.
- You will assist the business to identify and take all appropriate action to comply with applicable regulations and official guidance in the area of regulatory risks including Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions and Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption, thereby avoiding possible regulatory censure and mitigating risk of reputational damage or financial loss.
Purpose of role:
- To act as the Compliance Officer for Barclays Investments & Loans (India) Limited (BILIL)
- To provide business advice on NBFC related matters
- To manage the BILIL Compliance Manual and Regulatory Matrix on an ongoing basis
- To handle regulatory filings and submissions for BILIL
- To implement and monitor Barclays Group requirements in BILIL, as applicable
- To manage regulatory relationships for BILIL, including regulator contact management
- To provide Compliance support on the Insurance business (Corporate Agency) to be conducted out of Barclays Wealth Trustee (India) Private Limited (BWTIPL)
- To manage projects and submissions on behalf on WIM Asia Compliance
- To liaise with Central Compliance team as a project Coordinator for Asia Compliance, as required.
Core accountabilities:
Business and other advisory, communication and escalation:
- Provide day to day and strategic advice to the business on all relevant matters including escalating significant matters promptly, providing additional information where requested, analysing/interpreting legal, regulatory and internal policy/procedure issues.
- Maintain regular communication/liaison with relevant senior management, business and others to ensure that they are aware of the business and regulatory risks, including advising them of significant policy matters, regulatory changes, audits and inspections and breaches, if any.
- Proactively lead the enhancement of the local compliance culture in the entity through a range of methods, including attendance at local business/other team meetings, training, engagement with local risk management, operations and front office staff, identification of and sharing best practices.
- Attend and contribute to local/regional/global team meetings/calls, helping identify and share best practices, and undertaking peer reviews.
Role requirements:
- Strong in advising business on client risks
- Strong understanding of RBI Regulations.
- Investigative mind, combined with good common sense
- Strength in client knowledge/dealings.
- Experience of leading a business facing team, where that team gives advise to the business on clients
- Expertise in dealing with regulators.
Professional/technical experience:
Essential:
- Advanced/competent user of Microsoft Office packages
- Ability to prioritise and manage demanding workloads
- Good technical skills in NBFC compliance
- The ability to execute and drive through new policies and projects
- Excellent communication skills at all levels, including training and presentation skills
- Proven track record of working to deadlines
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability and confidence to make business critical decisions
Preferred:
- 6-8 years’ experience with an MNC into banking/non banking financial services space in area’s relating to Compliance.
