Business Title : Assistant Manager - Research (India)

Grade : Assistant Manager

Reports to (position) : Senior Manager - Research (South-East Asia)

Global Function : Research Global Department , Economic Analysis

Role Purpose Statement :

- The India research analyst role will be an integral part of the Indian research team and the global Economic Research team.

- He/she will be responsible for maintaining and forecasting monthly and yearly supply and demand for the major Indian commodities traded by or of interest (wheat, corn, oilseeds, and oils).

- The role will participate in the company's economic research analysis effort which aims at leveraging and transforming the informational advantage into distinctive analysis and synthesis to manage risk around trading activities and asset management and facilitate informed decisions making.

Main Accountabilities (List 6 to 8 major areas of responsibilities in order of importance, and purpose of these activities :

- Develop SnDs of Indian Agriculture covering major main commodities

- Production updates

- Major government policy changes/ announcements

- Weather developments and impact on production

- Domestic demand updates

- Export/Import line-ups and sales/purchase commitments,

- Outline all balance sheet changes.

- Develop and maintain industry contacts and information flows.

Impact/Dimensions :

- The person would need to maintain supply and demand data set by updating historical figures and revising forecasts based on proactive discussion with traders and external sources.

- The role will involve collaboration with other researchers as well as traders to develop and improve supply and demand analysis.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (Measurable outcomes that the position contributes to) :

- Daily responsibilities may include analyzing trade flows, building and maintaining data sets to analyzing data and communicate findings to rest of the group effectively through written and verbal means.

- As a research analyst, being able to obtain information from different sources, apply critical reasoning to evaluate importance of each source, and use different sources to double-check supply and demand assumptions from different angles.

- Utilize internal intelligence for domestic production estimates, with goal of getting ahead of industry's estimates

- Estimate monthly totals.

- Estimate monthly trade flows for export/import

- Coordinate all changes with Global, meeting weekly timeline for dissemination of global grids.

- Analyst will be responsible for making sure all grids are in agreement with Global.

- Develop relationship with government bodies, Industry Associations and research agencies

- Develop a keen understanding of the inner workings of the India commodity market, what drives consumption and customer behavior changes, economics of plantings and crush, etc.

Major Opportunities and Decisions (Describe the more difficult and/or complex challenges or opportunities and decisions faced in doing work, improving processes or meeting customer needs. Where must position focus to be successful?) :

- Estimation of domestic vegetable oil demand

- Household consumption (mostly B2C business)

- Non household demand (mostly B2B business)

- Taste preference for oils around India

- Price elasticity of oil

- Non-food usage of oil

Key Relationships, Stakeholders & Interfaces (External & Internal) :

Internal :

- The India Agronomy Research General Manager

- All the product heads in India

- Regional research team in Singapore and Global research team.

External : Government bodies, Industry Associations and research agencies

Knowledge and Technical Competencies :

- We are looking for people intellectually curious, creative and analytical. In addition to being passionate about themarkets and interested in the research process, analysts should posses solid written and verbal communications skills in both Hindi and English.

- Candidates in Agri Commodity/ fertilizer companies having experience in Agriculture commodity supply demand estimation, commodity research and price forecasting, fundamental Analysis.

- Proficiency in Excel

- Ability to use VBA tools

- Ability to use Statistics tools and modelling tools

- Any other knowledge of data handling tools would be useful

Education/Experience : Applicants should be Graduate in Agriculture preferably with a post graduate degree in Agri Business Management and should have a minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in Agriculture research in medium to large size organization in India
