Apple Orchard Manager

- Manages all aspects of orchard operations and overall health of the orchard and fruit production. Responsibilities include management and oversight of pruning, chemical spray program, harvesting, washing, sorting, and storage of produce. Manages cider production and blends throughout the season. Responsible for overseeing overall care and maintenance of orchard grounds and equipment.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities :

- Identify opportunities to improve safety for all work activities and ensure implementation and adherence to health and safety procedures.

- Manage all aspects of apple and other fruit production.

- Oversee seasonal life cycle of fruit trees including pruning, IPM spray program, harvest schedules, washing, sorting, storage, and sale.

- Plan, organize, and oversee the replacement and addition of new trees. Identify new varieties and market trends for consumer demand.

- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate the staff employed under the department.

- Create and / or administer standard operating procedures for the departments.

- Maintain up to date knowledge of fruit production and management. Attend appropriate conferences and suggest educational opportunities to maintain up to date knowledge as required.

- Identify and implement new orchard management practices, techniques, and equipment.

- Maintain proper records and reporting of orchard production data and regulatory documentation (pick records, spray applications, produce safety documentation).

- Make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification, and procurement.

- Oversee the preventative maintenance and repair of all equipment and tools used in the orchard, sorting, storage, and cider production. Ensure organization and proper storage of all tools and essential equipment.

- Oversee the overall mowing and maintenance of the orchard buildings and grounds.

- Develop cider blends throughout the season and direct staff in cider production.

- Ensure that proper health and safety procedures and regulations are followed in the production and bottling of cider.

Qualification And Experience:

1. BE Civil or BSc in agriculture and orchard / farm management is required.

2. Familiar with various farm equipment operation and maintenance.

3. Must possess a high level of practical orchard operations & tree fruit knowledge; and must be familiar and comfortable with equipment operation, physical hard work, and working outdoors year-round.

4. Must be self-motivated, enjoy teaching and leading staff.

5. Working knowledge of common computer applications is a plus - Word, Excel, Google Documents, etc.

6. The individual must demonstrate the following skills: Excellent leadership ability; high level of analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills; excellent time management and stress management abilities.

7. Honest, trustworthy, respectful, sound work ethic, and passion for fruit production.
