Overall purpose of role

The role includes working as a part of a Data Analytics and MI team in Barclays Research within Barclays Investment Bank. This position sits within the Research Operations team providing global support to Research Production, Research Management and the Compliance function, and therefore requires someone who can effectively communicate and operate with teams across the organization, in multiple locations and time zones.

Key Accountabilities

- The selected analyst will need to work with a variety of datasets from different sources, (primarily related to Financial Analysis/Research Metrics/CRM) and come up with ideas for presenting data meaningful way that facilitates management decision making/financial analysis/product refinement.

- Delivery of MI and exception reports and advanced interactive dashboards using modern BI tools such as Tableau or QlikSense.

- Advanced use of Excel, VBA and related tools to cleanse and integrate data to produce critical/confidential reports and tools for research operations/research production/ management teams.

- An important aspect of the role will be to understand the business purpose of the analysis being requested and be creative in proposing meaningful solutions and prototypes. The analyst will have to communicate with the stakeholders on a regular basis to review the proposals to iteratively improve the delivered solution.

- Evaluate new tools and delivery mechanisms that may be useful for stakeholders such as Research Analysts, Research Operations and Management teams.

Person Specification

- Graduate or MBA Finance

- Experience in data visualization and data analysis.

- Knowledge of at least one BI tool (Tableau, QlikSense, SAS BI etc.)

- Strong understanding of Advanced Excel, VBA/macros and SQL. Relevant experience in Excel/VBA based tool development.

- Good knowledge of financial concepts (e.g. Valuation Analysis, Ratio Analysis, Peer Analysis etc.)

- Previous experience working with IT, including the specification of requirements and user acceptance testing

- Good communication skills (both verbal and written)

- Focus - Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing and creating reports

- Teamwork - work within a team environment both locally and across different time zones

- Independent - ability to work independently on tasks without direct supervision since some team members and line manager are located elsewhere

- Technology - strong system and package skills with the ability to learn in-house publishing applications and systems

- Commercial and risk awareness - understand the commercial and regulatory environment in which we operate and ensure risks are appropriately managed and escalated

- Project management - good project management skills to manage individual's tasks and ad hoc projects

- Analysis - ability to think through problems and issues and put forward practical solutions

- Time management - effective time management to ensure tasks are completed within agreed timescales and deadlines

- Initiative/self motivation - act on own initiative, identify opportunities and be proactive in putting forward ideas and solutions

- Flexibility - to adapt successfully to changing situations and environment.
